General bio:
Shining is a very thoughtful, and polite young pony. Throughout his life, he had done nothing but take an absolute interest in magic, studying and books. This makes him nothing less than the apple of Twilight's eye, her pride and joy, but he despises this. He can't stand the rift that he has seen form between his mother and sister, often feeling like he is the sole cause to the family drama despite Midnight's reassurance that this has always been that way. Even though Shining loves to stay inside and study away, he is often found out and about in Ponyville hanging around his friends, mainly Smart Apple and Clever Cookie. Shining knows that many ponies look at him with high regard in town, so he tends to hold himself to a very high standard, often overthinking many situations. Some of his other friends often think of him as a bore since he never wants to do anything exciting, but they never push him past his comfort levels. While he does try to maintain the image of a proper royal pony, there will be times where a mischievous side takes over and he will go off on wild adventures.

Relationships:

Shining and Twilight have a very unblanced relationship. Twilight simply loves the fact that her son seems to have taken after her in every since way of the meaning, and while Shining loves his mother, he hates how she treats his Sister. They do spend a lot of time together still, however, most of the time Twilight is trying to talk about books, and magic while Shining would rather have a normal conversation, even trying to bring his sister into the mix a bit. There will be times where they all get along like a normal family and Shining often feels like he made a great breakthrough.

Flash looks at Shining with great admiration, often considering him already very independent and mature. Shining gets along with his dad rather well, but they don't have a typical father-son relationship due to his father always being away. When they do get to spend time together, they spend most of it catching up on family happenings, and sharing stories of what each has experienced. Flash is grateful that Shining sees the rift between Twilight and Midnight and encourages him to keep trying to get the two together.

Shining and his sister have a very close relationship. Shining knows he is his mother's favorite, and while the praise feels good, he often ignores it knowing what it does to his sister. Shining will do anything to make his sister feel better, even yelling at his mother to get his point across. Shining and Midnight will spend a lot of time together in the libraries, her flying him to high places to get books and read them in peace.

Shining is very close with Clever Cookie and Smart Apple, often doing studies with them after school. The three are considered the smartest ponies in school, and many ponies come to them for help with their homework. Shining really enjoys the company of Clever and Smart, often considering them the only ponies that truly understand his love for knowledge. Shining will never admit it to either of them, but their company is really the only company that he finds himself truly relaxed in besides his sister's.

Shining enjoys hanging out with the other children of the mane 6, but still finds himself left behind a bit since he doesn't enjoy adventures like they do. Cheese Cake will, at times, stay behind with him, her brother (Clever Cookie), and Smart Apple because she wants them to feel like they belong as well. She will go on small adventures with them that she knows is well within all their comfort zones.

Talent/Cutiemark/Abilities:
Shining's special talent revolves around his love for studying, magic, and books. He not only has a keen ability to learn and master many spells and skills, he has found that he can also teach ponies very easily different skills. He himself may not be able to master a certain skill, but he can effectively teach other ponies how to use these skills and implement them. His cutie mark appeared on his flank the day he showed Cheese Cake how she could increase her dessert production without losing efficiency. To this day, Cheese Cake will often give Shining some of her profit since he helped her get to where she is today.
