Description
The Semyorka is the latest medium cruiser fielded by the Russian Aerospace Fleet and is gradually replacing older models of the Last Commonwealth Cosmo Forces. With a well-rounded arsenal and increased range, this new class is well-suited to the increasing number of deep space operations conducted by the Tashkent Pact in recent years.

Characteristics
Despite its relatively small size, the Semyorka is one of the most complex cruisers in the Russian Aerospace Fleet. The design introduces additional redundancies to all primary systems, the latest generation of command and control systems, as well as sensor arrays and layered active defenses. All of this can be seen as a determined effort by the Russians to close the widening technological gap between the Last Commonwealth Cosmo Forces and its allies in the Shanghai Pact.

As a replacement for older models in the Last Commonwealth Guardian Fleets, the Semyorka represents an all-around upgrade, trading in some conventional armor and resilience for more sophisticated defenses, firepower, and utility. However, due to increases in cost and production time, this new class will likely be produced in smaller numbers.

Role and Operations
Most cruisers of the Russian Aerospace Fleet serve in the System Gate Guardian Fleets, being stationed along the long trajectory of the gateway corridor. This assignment is also a primary task of the Semyorka Class, as it takes the place of older cruisers being phased out of active service. During such operations, the vessel can rely on dense infrastructure, sensor, and communications systems. However, the upgraded systems of this new class will allow for a much greater tactical flexibility. With this new advantage in mind, fleet headquarters in several systems have begun developing new battle plans and fleet compositions, incorporating Semyorka-Class vessels and other advanced cruisers in rapid response and skirmishing units.

Semyorka-Class cruisers have also taken part in multiple deep space patrols in the outer systems, reinforcing the newly assertive stance of the Tashkent Pact Cosmo Forces beyond the System Gate sectors.

History
Plans for an all-around modernization of the Last Commonwealth Cosmo Forces were already underway for close to a decade by the time the Semyorka-Class was conceived by the Korolev Design Bureau. Earlier projects for the fleet's modernization focused on new types of specialized vessels to enhance the effectiveness of existing conventional units and formations. The replacement of the core of the fleet with an entirely new design had been postponed several times, as the leadership awaited new technological breakthroughs in several key systems.
Ultimately, the Semyorka project became a race between several research and development divisions to keep up with the main ship's design process. By the time a prototype was finally constructed, multiple systems had to be left out for early demonstrations, as they encountered issues in system compatibility and power consumption. While most of these issues were eventually overcome before the production design was finalized, the Semyorka retains a reputation for being particularly maintenance intensive.
