This image is a bit of a conceptual departure from my usual landscape images. Please read on for the back story and the concept of this image.
I went for an extended weekend a few weeks ago to get away from the usual rigors of life and get out to make some images. I was hoping to catch some great fall colors, but the cabin where we were staying was too high up in the mountains. In fact, most of the drive out there was full of beautiful fall colors then towards the end of the trip out there we drove up a mountain to the plateau and literally we drove from fall directly into winter. Most of the leaves were gone from the trees and it was snowing with a good ground cover of a few inches.
Due to the weather I really didn't get the chance to get out and take a lot of photos, but I made sure to at least get out back and take some. The cabin we stayed out was at the top of a ridge overlooking a valley. Down at the bottom of the valley there were some brilliant fall colors still scattered, while we sat on top of the ridge with 6 inches of snow on the ground and up in the trees.
The location was not great as there were too many trees in the way, but I saw a few clearings and then it came to me. I wanted to experiment a bit with some blur effects, so I slowed down the shutter a bit and began moving around. When I finally realized I had a great concept staring at me. So I aimed down into the valley, began to zoom my lens and hit the shutter.
The concept is the title. Back Through Time. Autumn down in the Valley, Winter where I was. This is the portal.
As always, if you have any of your own interpretations I would love to hear them, and of course, enjoy!

Yea, it was something I had seen before applied to things like christmas lights producing sort of a star field effect, but I wanted to try it with a nature scene and see what I came up with. Thanks!

I find this really neat, especially how the more colorful trees in the center are clear, like you really are going through a portal. :U Congrats on the DD!

Yea, it was definitely an interesting photography experiment, but truthfully I almost didn't post this image. Thanks so much!

The picture looks slightly animated when I shift my gaze, which adds to the "back through time" concept. Not sure if that was the intent but it works for me!

No real intent to make it look animated in the way you say, only to really have a clear center and draw the view directly in through the use of the zoom blur. Thanks!
