Description Another image of the aurora borealis seen during the solar storm on March 17th. Southern Iceland.

Had a trip planned to Iceland for the middle of March, scheduled since last September. I was hoping I might catch a lucky break and see the aurora. I completely lucked out. Not only did I see it, but saw it on possibly one of the most active nights in the past decade.

I particularly liked the shape I caught in this image, remind me a bit of a musical note, especially because watching the aurora dance across the sky was rather musical. I hope you like it! More to come!

Yea, it was crazy watching that thing move and morph its way across the sky.

That's an incredible shape! I think I like this one better than the other. I hope you're planning on printing some of these!

Thanks! Yea, it was an incredible night, so happy that I managed to luck out and not only see the aurora, but see it during a once a decade solar storm.

I have about 7 or 8 others I have edited, but just have not posted yet. And as for printing... I want to, but I am not sure quality is up there. Shooting night scenes with an f/4 lens really means I have to push the exposure in post, and since I am shooting Canon, pushing the exposure introduces some ugly noise. The noise reduction looks fine for these web sized shots, but I am not quite sure how it will look printed.

Either way, I have some more great aurora shots that I will be posting up soon. I mean my camera just picked up some absolutely amazing colors.

I bet! I'm still waiting patiently to catch it up here. Occasionally they happen, but the timing has to be just right with the clouds and such. We went out last fall hoping to see some after a solar storm, but no luck.
