Hardest Aspect
Hilt carving and detailing were definitely the most difficult parts... right from the planning through to the actual woodworking. The Master Sword is so different structurally from anything I've ever made before; I had to sit down and do some pretty intensive planning.

Fortunately, in this case I had excellent references to go from, especially from , who has an excellent tutorial posted on Instructables. Without him, I probably wouldn't have even attempted the project.

----

Yes, I know the hilt is supposed to be a navy blue. Apparently either my monitor's funny, or I'm somewhat colourblind. At this point, it's close enough.

Also, I'll be totally honest with you, as nerdy as I am, I've never actually played a Zelda game for more than twenty minutes...

Why is it a WIP?
I'm still on the hunt for the right coloured leather/suede to wrap the handle, and there's a few tiny touchups I haven't had the time to hand paint, but I'll get to eventually.

----

Ahhh, yes. The infamous sword that put me out of commission for two weeks last summer because I sliced my leg open while working on the cross-guard. Ultimately? I think it was totally worth it, because this came out as awesomely as I'd hoped it would.

The symbol on the blade was done with a dremel, and took far longer than it should have, mostly because I was being super paranoid. I smoothed over the inside with a tiny bit of woodfiller, so that it wouldn't be so rough up close.

This sword, though, was one issue after another. First, finding wood long enough to make the damn thing. Then, figuring materials for the cross guard. Then attaching it so that it would be strong enough to withstand some force. But the painting. Oh good lord the painting.

The blade was painted so many times, I don't even understand. I sanded it down at least three times, because for some reason, the spray paint was spreading away from certain spots, leaving an incredibly ugly finish at the top of the blade. I never figured out why it was doing it, but I finally got it to a point where I was happy with it, so I left it at that for fear I'd ruin it again.

But overall? Like I said, I'm pretty pleased. I feel that this is something of a landmark in my swordmaking skills... I've come so far since that first katana I made. I'm proud of what I've achieved, and it goes to show - while your earlier works might not be the best, if you keep trying, you never know what you can create.

Do you think you could do a Katana version of the Master Sword?

Unfortunately, I'm currently closed to commissions... I'm a full time student, so I don't have much time throughout the year to work on things. I may start accepting them at some point in the future, but right now it's just too difficult for me. Sorry!

If you're interested in weapon commissions, though, check out the Sword Sanctuary (this piece is a part of it). There's many talented members, and I'm sure if you ask around, you'd be able to find at least a few who can help you!

Do you do regular commissions?

I've done a few, but they've largely been for people who live in my area, so I don't have to ship things.

Haha, nope, I'm all the way up in Canada
Well, I hope you find someone to commission... if it's a sword/weapon you're looking for, if you check out the group that this is a part of - Sword Sanctuary - and inquire, you might be able to find someone.

I don't have a gaming consol of any kind, so I've never really had the chance to sit down and play it, unless I'm with friends.

When licensing expires, emulation is legal. (The minish cap, ocarina, majora's mask)

I'm sure I'll get around to it someday... it's not that I don't want to play, it's that I don't normally have the time, either xDD

I know, I know... I don't have a gaming consol - never have - so I don't get many chances to sit down and play video games in general xD
