This is true. It would not have taken so long, though, if someone was paying me to do it from the start, though. But since it was for me, ... it is sometimes hard to put good books down. Thanks for the Fav's, by the way!

Well, you can hang it on your wall, but you'll have to part with a huge chunk of change. That's why it's still on my wall, everyone loves it, but not so much that they'd pay what it is worth. I might do prints of this on my own and not through this site. If I do I'll let you know ...

Thank you for your compliment, but I am not a god, as several artist that I've pissed off on this site will tell you. You, on the other hand, have the same amount of patience as I, but you choose to use it in a different way. I just happen to focus mine in this way, and some times I even use it with my children ...

I do not let this site print any of my finished works do to their policies and I don't trust anyone with files large enough to make quality prints of my work, unless I can work with them in person. I do have museum quality prints of the Zebras, Giraffe, and Dolphins at the moment. I also offer notecards of my work at my official website, if you are interested.

Only one thing, though, pointillism,... isn't it supposed to be only with the primary colors,
having, then, to make your black with the mix of them?
Anyhow.
whatever.

If I was using paint, yes. I prefer 'ointillism' as to 'stippling' which is the more correct term for what I do. Stippling just sounds too 'arts&craft'y to me, and pointillism is more to the point.

i must say that this in indeed impressive. but I don't know if I appreciate you as an artist or just your patience and your skill. because frankly from a self-proclaimed genius and master of pointillism I was expecting a little bit more originality in your works not just a great skill to copy a photo. I don't want to offense you in any way...it was just a thought

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

MasterOfPointillism In reply to suckadelik [2008-02-13 02:52:40 +0000 UTC]

As for photo-reference, I like to follow Robert Bateman's example. Perhaps you have heard of him, perhaps not, but this is what he has to say on the subject; ' I could never understand why some artists shrank from using photographs. Many, many years ago, I can remember students asking in hushed tones, β€œIs it all right to use photographs?” I have never heard of a good reason not to. One person said that it could make your work tight and unexpressive. Well, my wife uses photos for her painting and she is a bold, abstract artist and very expressive. Others whose work is loose and free and painterly do as well. In fact, in the last several decades I don’t ever hear that question. Everybody uses photographs if they are at all interested in realism. Even modernists and post modernists such as Warhol, Rauschenberg and Richter show photo-based paintings which are in the collections of big city museums.'

No offense taken, because I know you are watching FoxNatural [link] and that in your disbelief and frustration at his getting caught at photoshop-lifting, you might try to lash-out at me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

suckadelik In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2008-02-07 10:00:01 +0000 UTC]

I think you are avoiding my question. Watching FoxNatural doesn't make him my friend to defend him. And yes I agree with you that the 2 images have a lot(maybe to much) similarities. What I don't agree is the fact that you sustained on his page an entire theory about being a true artist, and about originality, when in fact, as I said before, I don't see that in your works either. I do not know any of you personally so I think I am objective enough right now. And again yes I think you are right about him, but I also think that you are not quite the appropriate person to judge him so...harsh. Oh...and by the way, stop campaigning against him on other people's pages. It is not nice and maybe some of us are not interested about you differences.Thank you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterOfPointillism In reply to suckadelik [2008-02-07 17:40:09 +0000 UTC]

I don't see where I used the term 'true artist' or were I was proposing a theory, so you'll have to be more specific there. As far as originality, what were you expecting?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterOfPointillism In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2008-02-07 21:21:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm right, but I'm not the 'appropriate' person? I find that a bit interesting. If not me, than whom? As to 'campaining' against him, he tried to bad-mouth me where he thought no one was likely to see it, as a retaliation for pointing out his crime. I merely thought he might like the same medicine, but I didn't try to hide it so much ...
Maybe you are not interested in 'differences', but you replied non-the-less. As far as being 'nice', which is the greater crime, seeing one in progress and doing nothing or seeing one and challenging the criminal out in the open?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterOfPointillism In reply to MasterOfPointillism [2008-02-11 03:00:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, while we are waiting for ~suckadelik to come up with a reply, I might add that my so-called 'unoriginal' artwork has garnered me awards and solo shows, so I still don't know just what kind of 'originality' ~sucka was expecting. Perhaps she'll enlighten us at some point and time ....

I love the added color to the bird. It would have been hard to make out in black and white against the ear, but it also adds a kind of feel like it doesn't fit. Not in a bad way, though.
