The Youtube Arc of SMG4...was great. Weirdly paced, maybe, but it lacks any of the problems that the Anime Arc had and it blew Meggy's Destiny out of the water. The main antagonists had personalities, after fucking all, and were fun all around. SMG3's plan was pretty smart, I liked his new voice clips, "Deleted" is amazingly dark and I love it, and WOTFI 2020 was damn good too. Really what I love most of all was that they did seem to learn their lesson from the Anime Arc and Meggy's Destiny; better characters, better writing, better balanced tone, better climax. The only problems I have is that pacing, the underuse of a few characters like Axol and, well, Melony was a sufficient comedy replacement for Meggy but when things got serious it got too hard to take seriously. Leader would have made a better fit, though considering the endgame and them removing Splatoon from the world, it's probably for the best Melony got used after all.

Speaking of...let's talk about Meggy.

Yep, I love the voice already. I adore everything about it and Meggy and I love her so much. Lizzie Freeman had quite a good start from the rap and I am really looking forward to what she recorded for future episodes. Meggy is a pure bean and I love her, hence why this pic is all about her and not...well, SMG4 or 3 or Susan W[gibberish]. Mainly as Kevin hasn't released the models for Belle, Rob or Whimpu (pleeeeeeeeeeeeease). And of course, with the Inklingese removed from her, Meggy is now 100% original. No more Splatoon remnants, unless Luke continues to make her use her Splattershot. But still. No more Splatoon connections, she is free to finally be her own person (and future Meta Runner cameo. And possibly her own series if that teaser they gave us is to be believed). And I adore that. People are angry, of course, but frankly anyone still upset with Meggy's human form can zip it. You had a year and a half and a whole fucking movie to make your peace. Change happens, live with it.

...I mean, ignoring Desti in the corner, but shush. I like to HC that she still watches Meggy from the heavens, why not? Maybe one day Kevin will get bored (or more like Luke will jump the shark, vague joke) and make a Human Desti model. That I'd REALLY like to see.

So all is good, right? Well...not quite. I do have one more thing to discuss. And yes I'm putting it here as DeviantART doesn't show Journals as standard anymore, because this site redesign was made by a house plant.

War Meggy...might not be long for this world.

Anyway, my ultimate problem is that to me War Meggy now feels...meaningless. She was born from two things; Meggy's angst from never winning Splatfest and Meggy's trauma from Francis' machinations. Both are now not a factor anymore. She won Splatfest, made peace with her inkling self and Desti, and by all accounts has moved on from her trauma. No PTSD, no nothing. From having Mario and friends by her side, she's moved on, got a job, got a new house and a new life. And now she has the voice she no longer even remotely resembles Inkling!Meggy outside of basic details. She is a personified Ship of Theseus, everything on her has been replaced. Is it the same Meggy? Or a different one? A new one? I find it hard to tell.

What does any of this have to do with War Meggy, you ask? Simple. War Meggy was a dark reflection of Meggy Prime's old insecurity and bullheaded competitive factor, in the same way Future Failure Meggy (from this: fav.me/ddqb1se ) was meant to be a personification of her fear of failure, specifically to Splatfest. But now that Meggy Prime has grown and changed, both physically and in terms of personality, War Meggy is now, to be completely honest, redundant. She's not much different from Mango's 2nd Timeline Meggy, or any of the countless Meggys reverted with science or magic. She's one foot in the past, a relic. She was...a reaction to Human Meggy. Always was and probably always will be. But as Meggy progressed, War Meg regressed. She turned into a bitter, shrieking, eternally angry little goblin that no longer serves her purpose properly. Hell even before that I struggled to know what to do with her after A Red Eye Under Jade Glass. Notice she went through TWO redesigns in 2020, and a human form. I might hold onto the eyes at least as I kinda lucked out on getting those made and I don't wanna waste the effort put into 'em but still. She just...exists. In the background. Same with War Desti. And that's not getting into all the people screaming out the woodwork to "challenge" War Meggy whenever she does anything, and the fact I feel she adds to the pile of "AU Meggys that have no justifiable reason to even BE Meggys", like a certain sordid Soviet.

...I think I've overcomplicated everything again. Maybe I just need to return to the original War Splats and start...ahem, Fresh.

I wonder if it was a mistake to make Warmongers out of SMG4 characters. Would Luke and Kevin appreciate it? Do they even know? Would they even care? Still, ultimately her fate will be left in the hands of you, the people. If all goes well, I'll post a poll about it. At least those aren't CORE-specific anymore. I hope. I haven't tested it. I have actually spent more time talking about War Meggy than the great arc and changes the pic was made for, God I'm bad at this...
