I am so sorry.
Anyway, yes! Meggy! I've mentioned this before, but Meggy kind of has a bad track record on DeviantART. It's not even the kink art this time! ...Well okay it kind of is, but not to the same extent as other characters. I's more that, for some reason, she just doesn't have a lot of fanart on DA that paints her in a positive or even neutral art. A lot of it is shipping, as one could expect. A lot of it's with Tari and Desti, and eh, I don't care much about that. You do you. Her and Mario, though...yyyyyyyyyyyyyyeah. A lot of people have given a lot of thoughts about it and I'd just repeat what they'd say, so here's my take;
No. Their relationship has always been platonic, and advancing further into romance is out of character (Meggy doesn't care for relationships of that type, Mario's too stupid to sustain one), creepy (Mario's at most 40. Meggy's at least 14, though granted even SMG4 doesn't know her age) and doesn't fit the tone of the show itself.
But it's not just that. It's the art from people desperate to block out the fact she's human and "FIX THE WURLD" to make her an Inkling again. There's the art that puts her in wildly unfitting scenarios and with wildly unfitting characters for the sake of story threads I cannot comprehend. And then there's...that guy. I don't even have to say his name if you' were on DA until recently you know EXACTLY what smut-making guy I'm talking about.
Point is, not a lot of "normal" Meggy art out there. So I decided to whip up some good art and share it...two months later. I dunno, another one I sat on for a while. But Audrey's gone and SMG4 post a video with Meggy in it yesterday, so we good! They are, in order;
1) Megg striking a pose. This one ended up on my new Twitter, actually. Got some attention, too.
2) Meggy being attacked by her bitter, still-Inkling Warmonger incarnation, confused as to what sociopath would even do this-
3) Meggy enjoying a sammich with Mario. They're really good friends, and that's fine. Even if Mario is a little too spaced out to properly enjoy the evening. I guess someone forgot to put spaghetti in his sandwiches and he's throwing a tantrum.
4) Oh shit, Meggy got a gun! Blam blam! Also Tari, who is an EXCELLENT bean. Truth be told, getting her to pose with that gun was HELL, let me tell you...

In all honesty... I’ve become unsure about Human Meggy. Her design is cute, possibly even more so than her inkling form. However, the usage kinda bothers me. She somehow goes from an inkling to a human from her equivalent of blood getting harvested, which goes against the serious tone of the Anime Arc with how illogical it is. Then, she is somewhat treated like she’s still an inkling, with having the same voice clips and spraying ink when she should no longer be able to play Turf War.
I’m almost hoping that they don’t do another Splatoon based arc. Like, just drop the storyline about avenging Desti. I get they’re not as into Splatoon, but If the show is meant to be stupid and yet they’re defying the logic of the game so much it still feels wrong, then either learn how to do it right or don’t include it at all.
Luke and Kevin, if you’re reading this, please, at least get Meggy a voice actor. You could hire a whole cast for Meta Runner, so there is no reason why you can’t do this.

Well in SMG4's world they allowed Mario, Tari, Luigi and Bob to play Turf War, so Meggy being human isn't really an issue. But I get what you mean, a lot of Meggy now is...illogical. She's kind of become a background character after "There's Something Wrong with Meggy". Not even a mention of a potential Splatfest arc like one would expect. To me, Meggy kind of has the same issue now as post-Heroes Shadow; her main story arc is kinda done...so what can she do now?
I feel SMG4 is slowly getting away from Splatoon - outside of Meggy's voice, and references to Inkopolis, nothing has been brought up. No Inklings, no Splatfest, nada. I mean that's fine. He's not obligated to dabble in it if he doesn't want to, and it's one less thing Nintendo can chase him down for. But it leaves Meggy longing for a bigger purpose. And I fully agree that she needs a new voice actor. Even if she shares Tari's. They want her to be her own character, they REALLY need to go all the way with it.
Also they need to make a Meggy plush. I'd take 10.

I want to be fine with them distancing themselves from Splatoon, but now that I think of it... that means forgetting winning Splatfest to avenge Desti. Forgetting the promise Meggy made to her. It’s almost like they’re taking Desti, a character who’s role in the series gives it some emotional weight, and throwing her away. Her redemption, her sacrifice, the heartfelt moments in the wake of her death, they’re just pretending none of it happened.
I think I’m starting to understand the criticism for the Anime Arc. They set up an emotional, serious story; and the transition from that to the normal goofy meme videos seems... too brief. Barely existent, actually. Meggy goes insane over Desti for one episode and that’s it. Her new design is all that remains.

Desti was never a good character, really. She was generic, flat-as-paper Alpha Bitch rival to give Meggy someone to smirk at. It wasn't until Mario and the Experiment, the second-to-last episode in the arc, where she gets any form of character development. AND THEN SHE DIES. She exists now not as a character, but as a figment of Meggy's character arc. A figment that will probably never get resolved. And that's piss-awful writing, nothing more and nothing less.

Exactly. I think Desti could have had potential, but they ruined her. I get it if they wanted to kill off a character, but choosing her was a bad idea.
You know what might have worked better? BOOPKINS dies, and Bob has to deal with loosing his best friend after a whole arc of damaging and repairing their friendship.

It's almost as if the Anime Arc went on too long and they were running on fumes dealing in stuff they're not really used to dealing in.

Basically. The length doesn’t really bother me too much, but it honestly feels like two separate arcs that were mashed together. They probably could have gotten away with putting non-arc episodes in between the anime ban and Francis’s plot.

Sorry to come in the conversation, honestly i agree with you two. The idea of a Splatfest arc for make justice for Desti and a true victory for Meggy was a idea to take. But like Perry said, i guess that he's get avay from the franchise after the reception of the Anime Arc. But maybe something of the past come back in the future (i talking about the Weegee Uprinsing). So, maybe one day we have a new arc with a real evil plan of SMG3 or the return of Sonic and Eggman.
