So many things to post, so little motivation to do so. So I think I'll upload something I've wanted to for a while; an overview on Future/Chonk Meggy. She's become oddly popular, for some reason. Probably because of the chonk. Hmm.

SO, who is Chonk Meggy? Well she's a character that originated as a little joke in this pre-Meggy's-Destiny thing; Future Failure (SMG4 GMOD) Originally she was a figment of Meggy's crumbling nerves, a sort of proto-Shadow designed to demoralise her. Guess I was ahead of the mark there, huh. And after that, I guess I kept at her character and developed it and her backstory, even gave her a unique texture. It goes a little like this;

The year is 2020, March. The Final Splatfest is underway, the final battle. Splatsquad vs Team Killer Ink. Splatsquad is down on turf but they just about have enough time to turn it around. In other worlds Meggy would defeat Leader, wipe the floor with her team and win the day. It goes as it does in every other timeline; throw her gun, punt Leader's into the air, grab her Splatter;

"Thank you for holding that for me."

But this time, Leader smiles deviously. She has a plan, a plan no other Leader has yet had. She takes a look at Meggy's stance, one foot forward. She raises her boot.

"No no, thank YOU for holdin' still."

A sickening *CCCCCRACK* rings throughout the arena as Leader slams her boot down on Meggy's leg, shattering the bones inside. Meggy screams in pain and drops to the floor, clutching her broken limb in an agony she has literally never felt before. She's out of the running, completely. She can't respawn, she can't stand, she can barely see at this point, and the Splatsquad is down one member. And uneven teams mean an inkbath. Leader rallies her teammates and curbstomp the others. Tari and Luigi are overwhelmed and suppressed. Mario is defeated and set on fire. The final few seconds tick down as Leader goes around spraying the arena in cyan. 3...2...1...TIME!

"And the winner is...TEAM KILLER INK!"

The fireworks fire off, and the crowd cheers. But the Squid Sisters are concerned. And Meggy is distraught. All that training, all that time...all the promises towards Desti. Wasted. For nothing. Leader gloats towards the injured Meggy, but she doesn't hear it. She's staring off into space, fear filling her frame, tears in her eyes. She doesn't hear anything until the male Inkling in the 18k Aviators stands before her.

"Heh. Can't beleive that worked. I mean, I knew it WOULD..."

Meggy looks up to him, her face a wreck, "Wh...Why? Why would she do this?"

"Don't give her too much credit, it wasn't HER plan," the so-called Shades growls back, "It was MINE. She leads the team, but I run the show. She and the others just want that dumb shiny trophy. Me?" he knelt down, "I want you humans to understand you're not welcome here. You invade our city, kidnap OUR people, and then try to claim OUR. HERITAGE," he brings a slap across Meggy's face, "No. I want to send a message with this. We want you humans gone. Get out of the city. Out of our culture. OUT OF OUR LIVES!" he stops frothing for a second, and regains his composure, "Just...get out." And he leaves, as medics come to assess the Beanie's condition.

The fallout is immense. Human/Inkling relations, already on shaky ground after the Anime Island Incident, dissolve basically overnight. Spurred on by Leader's victory, and despite the protests of the Squid Sisters, the Inkling ambassadors insult and attack their human counterparts, and before long a brawl breaks out. Humans and Inklings ban each other from their cities, on pain of death, and small conflicts continue well into the future. Leader and co, their trophy earned, become superstars to the community, and feed the flames of hate and their own egos. Desti's name becomes a target of mockery throughout Inkopolis, her coffin discovered and trashed, the body disposed of outside the city limits.

Meggy recovers from her broken leg in her apartment, continuously vandalised and harassed outside her door, before she is ultimately kicked out. She shacks up with Tari for a bit while her leg continues to heal, but the guilt of letting everyone down slowly eats at her morale. Eventually, she starts seeing...Desti? But, a Desti covered in shadow with glowing yellow eyes. And she has nothing nice to say.

"You failure. Disgusting human trash. Absolute waste of space and good cells. You let me down. You let EVERYONE down. You ruined me! You were worthless as an Inkling and moreso as a human! YOU SHOULD'VE DIED ON THE ISLAND INSTEAD OF ME!!!"

Eventually, it's too much. Using whatever funds she got from coming second place in the Splatfest, she buys the cheapest, crappiest apartment she can find as far from the Mushroom Kingdom as she can afford to go, and runs away in the dead of night. Tari chases her to the bus stop, but alas, Meggy is gone. The crew takes her departure hard, Mario and Tari the worst among them. Meanwhile, Meggy makes it to her new apartment; a run-down, crumbling hovel on the outskirts of some city. She can claim some benefits to keep herself going, but such a life won't be a happy one. But she feels...she doesn't deserve one. She orders some pizza, the first of many, and cries herself to sleep on the sofa.

A year passes. The SMG4 crew continues with their lives, defeating SMG3 in a horrific plot to take over SMG4's life, and gaining a "replacement" (though don't you dare say that in front of Mario) in Melony. But the cast miss Meggy too much, and they've spent the past year trying to track her down. It's not until Melony, with her hacking skills, comes along that they find her. Excited, they take the train to meet her in person. But the Meggy they find is nothing like the Meggy they knew. See, Meggy had kept herself...busy, in the interim. Watching crappy daytime TV, doing those paid surveys and eating tons and tons of cheap pizza. What was once a hopeful, happy, stick-thin girl is now a bitter, depressed and obese womanchild. Not in Education, Employment of Training. A NEET, if you will.

Both sides are distraght, with how hard Meggy has fallen and her lingering guilt towards letting her friends down, and it only gets worse when Tari discovers heavy bruising on her arms from repeated strikes during a sleepover. Tari promises to help Meggy lose wait and get back on her feet, but Meggy is done with all that. She refuses to play along, instead watching more crap TV and eating more pizza, never telling them of the Shadow Desti that has haunted her all this time. It's not until she comes across another Meggy, the Prime self fresh from Port Aroura, giving her the encouragement she needs to finally get back into the fight. Together, they take on and defeat Shadow Desti, and everything seems just a little bit...clearer.

Today, the so-called Chonk Meggy continues to live her life. She has been trying to eat less pizza, though a slice always seems to find its way into her hands one way or another. She enrolled in proper cookery classes, talks with Tari daily, and meets with the others from time to time. She even grew a soft spot for that Melony girl, despite her being a "replacement". But to this day, she still keeps hold of her old Splattershot, worn from use and dusty from abandonment. She may never forgive herself for losing Splatfest and failing Desti. But perhaps one day, it will all be just...a distant memory.

Well shit, that got darker than I was expecting it to, huh. Kind of makes me look like I don't like this character. But...I do. A lot. Meggy is so good because she's so flawed. That she would have a reaction to losing Splatfest along these lines instead of "OH WELL I HAD FUN AT LEAST". Not this extreme, of course, but something would be there. Well, there you go. That's who Chonk Meggy is. Where she came form. Where she is now. Kind of become a comfort character as this year keeps beating me senseless. Maybe one day, she'll get noticed...probably with disgust. Knowing SMG4's fanbase.
