Description
Another scene illustration from Hiccup's Quest to Dragon's Fire.In it, the Expedition Team is stymied on how to open a colossal door in an underground complex of ruins. Taking a moment to sit and rest, my bedraggled Quest character scratches the head of the great wolf Terra .
(By the way, Crona .... my quest character wants you to pay to have his armor suit repaired. Your character really messed it up!
Here is the link to the Quest Episode: [link]
As a reminder, I tell the Quest story through daily posts in my journal, and all are welcome to read it.

Well thank you TigerLily! I really don't draw animals that much, so this one was a big step for me.
I guess I should draw more animals.

It took a lot of time, but I'm so happy with how it turned out. I think it was my first real attempt at digitally drawing realistic fur.

That's what I hoped people would think!
How did I do it? I began with my sketch here: [link] and spent the next two weeks work off and on building up the fur layer by layer. Small brush, too!
"And I'm next! 8D I saw it in the crystal ball!"
hahahahaha! Actually, I had thought of doing a picture of Bo and Terra trapped in the cave in ..... but I ran out of time. So maybe in the future, Bo, I can draw you.

Interesting art work, there. Did you use a reference wolf image and build on it with your own style? It looks really great!
And your bedraggled Quest character looks great, too. Here he seems careworn through the quest- older than before, though maybe a few spa days could fix that. And he's got more of an unshaven look about him on the goatee- it's hard to keep spiffy on the road. Plus, his hair seems longer than your other entries. It seems it's been growing out. He almost could pull it back into a pony tail at the length he has it in this picture.
Anyway, my main rant of joy is how well you have depicted that wolf and the human and she showing a good friendship moment.

Fjord!
Always great to hear from you!
The wolf design is actually based on a siberian husky I had growing up (and I loved that dog; hence that bond of friendship in the picture). The frame I sketched seemed a bit thin, so I plumped him her up and worked on the fur off and on for about two weeks. I actually spent more time working on the wolf than on my character!
I'm very happy with how fluffy the wolf turned out.
And once again, very little escapes your observant eye!
Yes, personal grooming seems to take a dive on these long wilderness treks. I supposed he could chop his hair with a sword or knife, but he seems to be fine with just letting it grow out. Gads, he could have a pony tail soon!
Thanks for enjoying the picture!

Interesting to hear about you designed the wolf.
And lucky you to own a Siberian husky. They are beautiful dogs and seem rather catlike in personality, something I like. It also takes a special kind of family to own one since they require lots of care and chances to be outdoors. Since you live in the southeast, how did you find the summer weather affected your dog?
Heh, AvannaK is often talking about how I notice a lot on pictures, often things that artists did not intend to put in a picture, but it subconsciously came in anyway.
Well, we'll see if in the next pictures your Master Rohan has a pony tail or not. Even if his hair is growing out, he does seem to be pretty up on the shaving. That's not easy to do in the great outdoors where people don't have a lot of downtime from enemy attacks.

"And lucky you to own a Siberian husky."
Owned He died a few years back but did live to be 13 (14?); we were never really quite certain how old he was since we adopted him from the Humane Society.
"Since you live in the southeast, how did you find the summer weather affected your dog?"
LOL! Every spring/early summer, his thick winter coat of fur shed in HUGE clumps of fur. We could've stuffed pillows with all of that fur! So he looked incredibly thin during the summer, but I think during July and August he was absolutely miserable. If it was in the mid to upper 90s we would bring him inside.
Well AvannaK is right! You must be indomitable at observation games.
And though my quest character has slacked on his barber visits, he still insists on daily shaving!
