Hello, I just wanted to say that this tutorial is very helpful and I am sure I am going to use it a lot from now on. Thank you so much for making it :3 I am having some trouble figuring out the composition part though, the one with the fibonacci spiral specifically. I am trying to use it in my compositions but for some reason I have no idea where to place things. I mean, I can see that it works perfectly for the drawings above, but when starting a new drawing I just stare at it blankly.
Is there a specific rule that goes with it? like for example, the head of the main character should be at the beginning of the circle or something?

MasterTeacher In reply to zelka94 [2014-05-05 11:36:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

About fibonacci spiral: You must placed main object of your pic at center of spiral. It can be "face of charachter" or "shine sword" or "blood splatter" and etc. depending on the subject. For exapmle, if you have subject where charachter have hat in the form of nest, and phoenix bird sitting on this nest - It is evident that main object of pic will be phoenix but not charachter face.
Generally spiral - this is how you would like to see your picture viewer considered (path of spectator eyes)

Ohhhhhh now I get it!!! Thank you so much for the explanation >w< <3333 I usually place the obects and the characters where i think they look good, so i never really used any composition rules besides the basics.

I hate to be a jerk but some of the things said in this tutorial are kinda iffy. First of all the part where you say years of practice versus "a few days of practice" is horribly wrong, even after a couple years of drawing I still get some facial details disproportionate and bad looking. It doesn't take just a few days to get to that level, at all. Frankly this is what makes anime artists look bad because it makes it seem like its so simple and easy to draw the anatomy so therefore it's cheap. Especially when you say "correct anatomy is too difficult", that just frankly makes anime artists look lazy and nothing more than just anime artists. Before any stylistic preference, we are all artists. Anime art is hard to do and make look good. Also I think your tutorial glorifies your art a bit, the art example you used even had some proportion problems in the face and some poor color choices.

MasterTeacher In reply to Ferretini [2013-12-16 12:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Hi
I don't want to say that anime is very easy to draw. I'm just mean that traditional portrets - most difficulty and it's not good idea to start draw difficult realistic anatomy if you novice and even don't know how to draw base proportions and simple poses. I agree that nice anme work with difficult pose and perspective POV - very hard to draw.
\\Also I think your tutorial glorifies your art a bit
have knowledge and apply them in practice - different things I do not consider myself a good artist - I have many problems at all. Also I have not practice (10-15 pics at 3 years of drawing - is too little((  )

Ferretini In reply to MasterTeacher [2013-12-16 13:23:10 +0000 UTC]

I agree that it generally is harder to get realistic anatomy, but people should learn to draw various different styles to be an artist. We can't just stick to anime all the time. You aren't a bad artist, and I definitely don't think you should give up on art or anything. ;; I just think using your art like that in the tutorial was a poor choice.

I don't agree that you absolutely need all these aspects to create beautiful illustration, but I agree with your point that evoking correct emotion is the most important. I sometimes see beautiful illustration with wonderful color and all these rules followed, but the emotion of the characters' fall short. The last part is true, good technical skill makes a good artist, but those that are able to evoke emotion are the best artists.

I have a question... Which would you prefer, Sketching on paper and scan it and color it digitally, or draw digitally using a tablet, I'm having a hard time with my tablet, Thx in advance

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

MasterTeacher In reply to SkyBlitz98 [2013-07-28 12:17:56 +0000 UTC]

Hi. I'm drawn digitally using a tablet. I'm use pencils only in childhood and forgot how to do it (it have not ctrl+z - too hard for me)))

\\I'm having a hard time with my tablet
Try to use 1:1 tablet scale... for example, if you have A5 (M) or A6(S) tablet and 27'' monitor - don't set full monitor area (apps.corel.com/painterix/train… - don't do it... screen area must be like tablet area
