RANDOM EVENT
Quite a wonderful day for a stroll in the darkest parts of the woods, eh? Well, Jasper was bound to find something after all those times he returned empty...hoofed...but, it wasn't anything he could take exactly. As he aimlessly wandered through the brush, he hears a bellowing roar to his right. The moment he looks up, it's a giant grizzly bear!
A) Run!
B) Fight it
It has been more than a week since the last sighting of the strange horse. Jasper and Lillian had both been hyper vigilant since then, but hadn’t had another encounter or even seen the horse again. Neither of them knew what to think about it either. Lillian was curious to know who it was, but also spooked by how mysterious they were being. Meanwhile, Jasper was just interested to know why there was a lone horse wandering around- and particularly, why they seemed to be in all the same places as Lillian and him. Were they purposefully following them? Or was it merely coincidence? Something inside him told him, with this many occurrences, it couldn’t be simple happenstance. But if they were indeed deliberately following them, why? Why didn’t they show themselves or approach them boldly like Hotah had? Why did they stay hidden in the shadows?
It was all Jasper could think about. He had mixed feelings; he wanted to know who it was but he also wanted to keep Lillian safe. He didn’t want to end up in another circumstance like with Hotah, but the constant paranoia and bewilderment was putting him on edge. Lillian could sense it and she stayed quiet, not wanting to upset him. She wanted to talk about it, to toss around theories, but the look on Jasper’s face made her think that maybe it wasn’t a good idea, at least not yet. So silently they walked, aimlessly wandering the forest. They’d come to feel a little bit more comfortable in it, though some days were stifling hot. Thankfully though, today was one that carried a nice breeze with it, so as long as they were in the shade, the summer heat was bearable.
Eventually, they decided to stop for a bite to eat, but when Jasper brought them to a patch of grass, Lillian groaned. He looked up at her.
”What’s wrong?” He asked.
”Nothing, it’s just...Well, we’ve been eating almost nothing but grass for a while. Isn’t there anything else around we could eat?” Lillian explained. She knew it was petty and she was being picky; food was food, but it was summer and she wanted something that didn’t make her mouth dry. ”Like, maybe berries or something.” She added, rubbing one of her legs against the other in embarrassment.
Jasper considered her request; the thought of some juicy berries did sound good right about now. It was high noon, and so the full force of the sun was beating down on them. It would definitely give them some refreshment. ”Okay, we can look for some, but I can’t guarantee we’ll find any.” He agreed. He wasn’t the best tracker in the world, but it didn’t matter to Lillian. She cracked a grin and nodded, prancing up beside him as she readied to help sniff out some berries. Seeing her happy face made Jasper smile too, and forget about the mysterious horse following them for a little bit.
As they searched, however, his mind wandered again. His nose was seeking berries, but his mind was replaying the image of the silhouetted horse. Before he knew it, Jasper found himself standing in front of two very large elderberry bushes. Coming out of his daze, he blinked in surprise. He’d never seen a berry bush this large; it could have almost been a tree! He smiled and called out to Lillian, who was only a few paces behind.
”I think I just hit the jackpot!” He shouted happily. ”Come look at this!”
”What, what, what!?” Lillian squealed as she zoomed toward him. When she caught sight of the bushes, her mouth dropped open and she gasped. "Oh. My. Gosh!” she exclaimed. With one look to Jasper, Lillian dove head first into the bush, the stallion following suit. They laughed and gobbled up the the berries together, the juices covering their snouts and filling their noses with its sweet smell. They were so overwhelmed with stuffing themselves with the berries that they didn’t notice someone else approaching the bushes, someone who wanted the berries as well.
Suddenly, a roar sounded to their right and startled both of the horses. They quickly pulled their faces from the bush and almost tripped over themselves, fumbling to try and see what it was that made that sound. Low and behold, a giant grizzly bear had wandered in, no doubt he had also smelled the delicious berries. Jasper gulped as the bear stared them down. It was definitely a male, he could tell from the size alone. Lillian stared, mouth smeared with berries agape, gawking in terror at the monstrous creature. It was almost as if she were screaming, yet no sound came out.
”N-n-nice bear,” Jasper stammered quietly. He took a step back, bumping into Lillian. She seemed to wake up and copied his movements, slowly stepping back as well. However, instead of diffusing the situation, they merely angered the bear. He stood up on his hind legs, showing his full height, and bellowed again. Lillian thought she might pee herself at the sight of it. He towered over them, casting a long shadow, blocking out the sun above them.
”Run.” Jasper whispered. Lillian listened immediately and turned and ran as fast as she could away from the bear, Jasper hot on her heels. The bear roared once again and they could hear it smashing through the forest behind them; it was chasing them! Logically, they had probably wandered into his territory, and they were probably eating his berries. But Jasper and Lillian weren’t thinking logically right now. At the moment, all they could think about was not getting eaten!
Lillian could feel hot tears on her face as the memory of the night that Delta found her came rushing back. Suddenly she realized she was screaming and sobbing with Jasper at her side. He was saying something, but he quickly gave up. There was no time to try and calm her and so he did his best to steer her in a clear path, but the bear knew it’s way around this forest and easily kept up with them. He dared not look behind him, because he knew the sight of a massive bear smashing through the woods would definitely make him faint.
It was chaos as they ran; Lillian sobbing, Jasper on the verge of it, and the bear close behind. Jasper’s heartbeat was in his ears- or was it? It took a moment to register, but the sound he was hearing was pounding hooves, not his heart. But instead of two sets of hooves, there was three. Just for a split second, Jasper took his eyes away from the path ahead of him to glance to his left. There, galloping in time with him and Lillian, was the horse, the same horse that had been following them. Trees whizzed passed and he half expected the horse to disappear behind one each time one flashed in front of them, but they didn’t. Instead, he caught their gaze- no, her gaze, he realized, and knew what she was going to say before she said it.
”This way! Hurry!” The mystery mare shouted over the pandemonium. Lillian jumped and nearly tripped at the sound; she hadn’t even realized another horse was around until now. With some urging from Jasper, the two followed the mare. She lead them to make a tight turn, slowing the bear down, and slowing him even more still as they dashed into a denser part of the brush. They jumped over logs and high buses until without warning, the mare slowed her pace. Jasper and Lillian nearly ran into each other as they skidded to a halt. He was about to open his mouth to ask what was going on, but he soon learned the answer. She was leading them down a steep embankment, covered in dirt and sharp, menacing rocks. At the bottom was a rushing river that didn’t look at all friendly either. On the other side of the river was even worse; there was no embankment, instead just the side of a rocky cliff, creating a sort of canyon with the river running through it. If they followed her, they would be sitting ducks! Jasper hesitated at the top while the mare began her descent; she skidded down at an angle, dust and pebbles flying out behind her. Lillian pressed herself to Jasper, her eyes darting behind them every few seconds. She had stopped screaming, but her eyes and cheeks were slick with tears.
”W-wait! Are you sure this is safe?” Jasper called to the mare. He plucked up the courage to steal a glance behind him; he didn’t see the bear, but he could still hear it crashing and thrashing through the trees.
”It’s this or the bear!” She called up to them without stopping or looking back. Jasper swallowed hard again. He looked at Lillian, into her wild eyes, and knew instantly she would do anything to get away from the bear. Quickly he ushered her forward, and together they followed in the mare’s footpath, taking the slope the same way she had.

For comics, what we mean by that is whether or not a background was reused in another panel, or if every panel had their own background. Stuff like that. Just to make sure people aren't given diamonds for reusing things in a different panel <3
