That debate rages on til this day. They were painted the color you see there, An out of production Humbrol color called brown bess". A lot of the props and set pieces were painted this color, and due to the heavy use of blue lighting on the set, anything painted brown looked green.

ah, I see. They look awesome in both colors. They're both bold military earth tones.

Brown bess or BB as we call it is actually a rather dynamic camoflage color. It has the tendency to 'appear' to change and blend in (or absorb) it's surrounding colors. I can take a dozen pix of the pulse rifle under different lighting situations and backgrounds and they will all look different.

Has anyone ever tweaked the design to give it sights?

I've put scopes on them, anything with an AR carry handle mount will fit in the sight groove. I put ACOG's and Colt Scopes on with no problem.
