Description
"Springer: Twice the Life"Springer was a Triple Changer back in the day, turning into both a helicopter and a strikingly helicopter-like "armored car." More recently, two new toys have been made of him, one that only turns into a helicopter and one that only turns into an armored car . Which I've decided must mean: transporter accident!
Which was a perfect opportunity to reference some oldschool Transformers lore.... can anybody tell what event the title, background characters, and some environmental elements are all pointing to? One person in the comments already got the core answer, but nobody has spelled out how all the clues work yet.
(Side note for the terminally geeky: Springer's helicopter-only toy was actually meant to represent his form in the War Within comic, set in Cybertron 's ancient past. But the toy is very much an Earth-style helicopter, and it barely matches the way he was drawn anyway, so I figured it was fair game for reinterpretation.)

No idea why they're there, but I can easily identify both Nightbeat and Optimus Prime. Third guy doesn't ring any bells, however.

Ah. Waverider.
Still no clue why the three of them, however. Regardless, this looks awesome!

JazZeke got it. Those were the three in the room when the fused Megatron/Ratchet came through the portal in the Marvel comic. I just put Nightbeat and Prime in updated bodies (now who can tell me which body Prime is in?) and took Waverider out of his shell.
Anyway, glad you like the piece! Thanks for commenting.

Now THERE'S a man who knows his Optimi! Well done, sir.
When people think "Classics Prime," they always go for this one . But I like to mix it up .

Why thank you, my good man. Not too many "optimi" have those yellow vents on their heads.

Well, Optimus and Nightbeat are a callback to the Marvel US 69. I love this concept! Gotta love transporter accidents.

Bingo! I threw Nightbeat's busted probe on the floor there, too. Darn that trans-time dimensional portal! It's wacky.

Next time, they should just take the train!

Awesome pic.. I've always liked him more as a helicopter.

Thanks! Yeah, his "car" mode was pretty phoned-in. I actually dig the new car-mode toy because it's a solid design unto itself, not a folded-up helicopter. Plus it's got lots of great hidden weapons.

Heh heh, thank you. Put it this way: Have you ever seen the old Star Trek episode, "The Enemy Within" ?

COOL idea! Springer with the sarcasm impulsive and nasty qualities and Springer with the kind-hearted but hesitant to say qualities. Very cool idea. I'm going to go with dark springer having the helicopter mode.

Funny you say that - in a conversation on another board, I'd decided that the ground-vehicle-bot would be dark one because he's armed to the teeth, while the copter-bot would be the other because he's equipped for rescue. Also there's the metaphor of "lower" impulses versus "higher" ideals.
(On the other hand, it would also be deliciously ironic to give all the guns to the one who doesn't want to use them, while the violent one has to get inventive with his hook and rotor-blades...)

Oooh that's true! I was thinking the light one would want to run away, fastest way away from the Decepticons? Certainly not the air, the ground and speeding away

That's pretty off-the-wall cool. Who's that on Prime's left? Waverider?
