Description
The battle was won, and not a moment too soon. With the sun now reaching over the horizon, the window to return to headquarters and reduce back to normal was closing fast. She had but a moment to sit and catch her breath before they'd have to head for the transport.One more major painting to finish out 2017! This one has been in the works for a while, and it feels good to finally put a fork in it. I've already got studies in progress for new pieces, so more is on the way!
I'd like to share some more stuff from the world I'm building beyond just these paintings. I'm thinking short written vignettes most likely (if you've got ideas of other stuff you'd like to see, let me know in the comments!). At the moment I'm super pooped though, so it might be a few days to get something together. I'll either update this description (and notify watchers) or make a new post if it feels appropriate. EDIT: Recently purchased a polarizing filter for my camera, and I was able to reshoot this painting. This new photo is much more accurate to the way it looks in real life!

You capture a lot of viewpoints here. Starting with the man on the balcony but then seeing the giantesses and the monster towering over buildings just makes you realize how enormous they are. I loved the look of the kaiju especially. Some large toad beast looks incredible. Looks like one giantess is wounded or had a vicious struggle with her leaning on the nearby (and crumbling under her weight) buildings. I also love that this seems like it's dawn or sunrise from the sky. Over all another incredible one!

This is really impressive! Have you thought of trying some maritime encounters? Maybe a kaiju coming ashore at a harbor and the Lionesses have to save the ships.

Yeah, we're on the same page! That's where my head has been at lately with the latest sketches. Still trying to work out some good compositions. The two pieces I've currently got in progress are cityscapes, but at least one after that will probably involve some ocean!

I think so: the facades and upper floor might be damaged, but generally I think if it were going to collapse it would have the minute she sat down.

A/C is definitely toast. But, had she not been there, the building probably wouldn't even be standing. I'm sure insurance will cover it!

Actually, in the paintings depicting the facility where these women train, there's a lot of signage warning people to watch out! You can see one of those signs in my painting Death Postponed. There's going to be another one I think in my painting based on this study.

I'm all for short vignettes! And teamwork! They're "lions" so they should work as a pride.
The one who took a seat, was she injured or tired out so she needed to rest a bit, or did she misjudge her actions and lost her balance so she ended up causing damage to those rooftops?
Also the companies that make their clothing aren't putting logos/decals on them? I can imagine you, the artist, not putting real-world copyright symbols on the clothing but the people in charge of clothing them would probably want the girls to also advertise their wears.

I was thinking of all kinds of Lion related terms I could apply, and I definitely think pride is one of my favorites. It was almost the title for this painting in fact! "Lions Defending their Pride."
The one sitting is exhausted for sure, probably a bit beat up too. Maybe a newer fighter would have problems with tripping over power lines or just getting adjusted to their new size, but this is a pair of veterans.
I thought about the clothing for quite a while, and I still haven't managed to make up my mind on it haha! I think adding real world logos would add to the realism, definitely. At the same time though, I think clothing logos would take away from the heroic quality of the costumes. I've looked at a lot of Power Rangers and tokusatsu shows for inspiration on the patterns and colors. While the actual coverage the clothing offers is mainly derived from UFC and MMA, I want the feeling the outfits evoke to be more super sentai. So who knows! It may change from painting to painting as I experiment. I also like the narrative idea of these fighters being able to wear whatever they find the most appealing. So maybe we'll see a one piece type of outfit, or a singlet like they wear in wrestling. Maybe even a full body suit now and then.
