I hardly ever draw fanart, but after an exceptionally splendid artist by the name of Zexyz (whose work you should seek out on the InformationSuperBusLane as a matter of principle. Go on, do it now. I'll still be here when you get back) planted an idea in my brain about a bunch of Nintendo characters knocking seven shades of sushi out of each other, I simply had to let it sprout into the picture above. Videogame villains hardly ever get to win against the heroes, so I thought it was about time for some payback.From left to right, the characters are as follows: Bowser (who really shouldn't need any sort of introduction, quite frankly), Pimple (the biggest of the three Battletoads), Big Blag (a giant rat, and one of the Battletoads' main villains) and Donkey Kong (the famous barrel-lobbing ape bloke), and also Zexyz (the fangy chimera guy in the background), making a guest appearance as the referee. Here we see him attempting to maintain order in his own inimitable style.
This was drawn entirely in graphite pencil over the course of several evenings, and made at least two of my fingers drop off. And if anyone from Nintendo is reading this, itβd be just super if you didnβt sue me or anything. Ta!

One of these days, I sincerely hope they include at least one of the Battletoads characters in a Smash Brothers game. Considering all the ludicrously overblown special moves they all had (with giant-sized boots and fists and everything), it would make for a fun addition to the formula.

Guess I'd better mention what I like (after 19 months of only saying I like it), which might come across as further buttering-up. Blag's arms, teeth, chin-fur, facial expression, and pose are quite good. I like the scene set-up, the choices in and execution of facial expressions, and the same for the poses. It's all excellent.
"Rotund rodent:" good one (again, something I noticed quite a while ago). Not sure if "rotund" describes him apart from the torso, but the words go well together.

Ah, the Battletoads arcade game. Fantastic fun, wasn't it? And you're right, Pimple is very much getting the same treatment that the toads gave those poor old ratmen. Serves him right for fighting dirty in the first place, I reckon.

I can see that the villains are winning, but could they all have faced the Rhino King of ADVENTURE ISLAND?

To be honest, the Battletoads games on the Nintendo and Mega Drive irritated me so intensely that I couldn't summon the willpower to play beyond whatever level it was where those wretched speeder bikes turned up. (The arcade version was fantastic, however.) I've never encountered the Rhino King, but he sounds intriguing. I bet Bowser could take him, though.

The Kongster has one of those faces that just lends itself perfectly to comical expressions, and it was fun to draw him. I really must doodle him again at some point. Also, cheers for the kind words!
