Way to bring the presidential election into something that has absolutely nothing to do with it. _-_

Hmm...the kid is carrying a crown of thorns too. Kind of makes sense with the Prometheus imagery (a god sacrificed for mortals). Outside of that I can only claim confusion about what the artist intended. Its obscure at best.

Brace yourselves, the anger-fueled political debates are coming.
Downright incredible painting though, gotta say!

God damn it... I don't understand why the feel the need to bring the politics of this next election into it, it has nothing to do with the picture, unless I'm absolutely missing something.

Exactly, right...there's clearly some commentary on the U.S. in there, (the flag and bald eagle are pretty blatant) but it's pretty ambiguous and open to different interpretations. I really don't see anything pertaining to either party, though, so I don't think anyone has any right to argue that this picture supports their vote. (That is, unless the author says so, which he/she hasn't...)

Exactly... it seems people will find any excuse to trumpet about their political party. Like a week or so ago I was chilling out in Walmart waiting in line to purchase my stuff and this guy ahead of me was bitching and moaning about the political party he doesn't like and saying all this annoying insulting shit, and even said that the people who vote for the party he doesn't like are stupid. Keep in mind the party he didn't like was my party, so he was essentially calling me stupid, I go to University, you're pretty much not allowed to be stupid there. He was also saying stuff to random passerbys that he knew was insulting. I told him to knock it off and to keep politics at home, they aren't appropriate in the public especially when they are so insulting, he is not a fit man, if he were to piss off the wrong person he would most definitely get his ass kicked. Then this old lady behind me chimed in and together we pretty much chased him away. I swear, sometimes it feels like people are just trying their best to start a fight. Surprise surprise, this gentleman couldn't back himself up and ran away with his tail between his legs. Anyway there was my semi related rant, this piece as you said clearly has quite a bit to do with America, but there is nothing that points to one party over the other, people are just trying to piss other people off.

While I think you did an amazing job with use of color and anatomy, I especially love the very subtle hints of purple and green throughout. However, I feel like the flow of this whole thing is awkward and the composition rather sloppy. There are no real leading lines to lead our eye around the picture--my eye was immediately drawn to the child due to his white contrast against the rather earthy tones of the rest of the pic. I then followed the flag down into the arm, but then I had to search for the next thing, which went from the eagle and down through the torso to the man looking at the eagle and then repeat.
Again, I want to stress you have some amazing technical skill painting with oil, but I feel this picture could have been pushed from amazing to fantastic if you had spent some more time composing the whole thing.

You've never learned any Greek mythology? They brought it up many times during my school years. You may want to buy a book or read a website about it. So much of our every day culture and symbols comes from Greek mythology.
We've got the recent Percy Jackson books and the Clash of the Titans movie that comes from Greek mythology. The movie Troy also has its roots in Greek mythology, as well as Disney's "Hercules".
Let's see . . . the product Ajax is named after a Greek god, as is Nike sportswear, the Atlas books, Apollo Theater, Calypso Studio, Dionysus Winery, Pandora jewelry, Phoenix Suns, the Titans, etc. etc.
The winged shoe is from Greek mythology, and whenever you see a trident in association with the ocean that's Greek. The three-headed dog is from mythology, as is a lot of symbols business' use.

The Eagle eats his liver during the day, which heals itself at night because he's immortal. He was chained in a rock so this process goes on forever and ever, as a punishment from Zeus, because Prometheus gave us fire (knowledge), much like the Snake from the Bible.
Hope I helped you guys x)

I like the fact that the artist refuses to "explain" the work. He left it open to whatever interpretation you wish to plug into it.
In the sense that he's created a provocative image that can have multiple interpretations, he has completely succeeded.
Some take a political POV, others philosophical, and yet others a world view. Fascinating stuff.

to the gods...so he gave us fire (knowledge)....and as a punishment...zeus chained
him to a rock, and had vultures eat his liver....
but...with that kid in the painting...i'm confused as hell O_o
