Description
This map is from a timeline in which Bavaria won the war of the austrian succession, altough the point of divergence before, in 1710s. After a long and devastating war with no clear winner at the beginning of the XIX century, something analogous to the Congress system (altough far more successful and long-lasting) arose. Due to England being crippled as a great power during this war and France turning inwards, India was spared colonization and in due time indian states industrialized and became world powers on their own. At the same time a Peter the Great-like figure came to power in the Ottoman Empire greatly reforming it and allowing it to retains its great power status. As a result of all of this, European powers have little control outside of their own continent and North America, having to compete with the equally powerful indian states. Altough retaining strong cultural differences the Ottomans and North Africa are well integrated into "Europe", being regarded no differently than any other european country by europeans. Thus it is not uncommon to find arab or turkish speakers in the well educated upper class of Paris, or vice-versa Dante being taught in egyptian university. Absolutism has mostly stayed in place, altough with some concessions, as the educated establishment that championed enlightened ideas turned monarchist due to growing fear of socialism. The great exception is France, where the monarchy is less than ceremonial (It is still politically useful tough, since royal marriages are still a big part of diplomacy).[This map is from the same universe as my *Coat of arms of the Granduchy of Tuscany* and my *Coat of arms of Ludwig III, Holy Roman Emperor*]
