Description
EDIT: changed a highlight that was bothering methe "Finish Avatar" project week Twenty. Leave me a suggestion for a picture
Featured in: "The Spirit World"
...
I'm not sure which is more frightening, a ghostly bald kid riding a ghostly dragon (that no one else can see), or Iroh in his underwear
I changed up the scene a little so this would be more apparent. I wanted Aang and Iroh's reactions to be mutually frightened
Plus, in the episode they're never actually on screen together
....
I'm calling this week 20 because I haven't actually done a project picture since the middle of last month when it was week 19.
Sorry I haven't submitted anything recently, these last few weeks have been odd... to say the least, and I kinda fell into a slump. I know I promised a bunch of people a bunch of pictures recently... and I promise I'm still working on them, I just might take a little longer than planned.
In better news, we bought the first two seasons of Castle and watched through them

What's more scary? A ghostly bald kid riding a ghostly dragon or Iroh in his underwear....

haha. I love it. Aang is like 'oh my god, i'm scarred for life!' and the dragon is like "well this is uh, interesting" Iroh is like "I sense something... OMG!' I love it and the rest of your art, great work.

Haha very nice!!
I never understood why Iroh could see him.. I thought it was just cause he was old and was going to die soon??

Thank you
I don't know either... but, I doubt it was because he was going to die soon ... he seems to have many more years left
.
I've always thought it was because he was so in tune with the spirit world. He's spent time with the dragons, he's learned about the different bending abilities and the cultures surrounding them even though he can only bend fire, and he's a member of the "Order of the White Lotus." He's a pretty well rounded guy

Haha. xD
Oh!! That reminded me. In the episode "Seige on the North Part 2" Iroh explains that he has taken a trip to the spirit world.. Maybe thats why. That and he is very in touch with everything like you said.

Great job! I always wondered why Iroh could see them! I remember Zhao saying something about Iroh's being in the spirit world before...I wish we knew more about that!

Aang's face is great. You always have a knack for facial expressions, and this is no different. I love seeing your reinterpretation of these scenes from new visual perspectives.

Thanks
Yeah, I like finding a different perspective for these scenes, I try to find the best way to capture the moment... because I only have one picture to tell the story, while the show has multiple frames of animation

Yes Castle is awesome, just saying.
Does anyone know why Iroh was able to see him? That always confused me

Oh... I love Castle soo much
Nope... it's never explained in the series why he could see them. I always assumed it was because he's more in tune with the spirit world

You did such a good job on this! I love pictures that capture an entire scene and tell a story this way! Everything from the character positioning, the poses, background (BEAUTIFUL job by the way) and most importatly, Aang and Iroh's expressions are spot on! A very deserved Fave for a job well done!

In the episode: "The Spirit World: Winter Solstice Part 1" (season 1, episode 7), Aang is pulled into the spirit world where he meats Fang (seen here), Avatar Roku's Dragon, who takes him to Roku's temple. Appa is left back at the town where Aang goes missing. I painted this scene from that episode where Iroh sees him as he soars past in spirit form. Have you seen the episode?

oh yeah but im presuming that the dragon.. is the ...eh animal (like the bison, moles etc) for the fire nation... etc they would have been alive when roku was there ... he seemed like an appa to him.. no?

Mattierial In reply to Pale-Face-and-Rain [2011-06-20 19:29:28 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, his relationship with Roku was similar to Aang's relationship with Aapa . In later episodes we learn that when Roku was dying, he told Fang to leave and save himself... but Fang stayed and died with him
...
The first firebenders learned from the dragons, just like the first airbenders learned from the airbisons, the first earthbenders learned from the Badgermoles and the first waterbenders learned from the moon (as in how it pushes and pulls the tides ).
Your icon... is that Matt Smith with Charlie the badger puppet that Charlieissocoollike got him for christmas?
