Description
This is a reproduction of the helmet of the Witch-King of Angmar (Lord of the NazgΓ»l) from the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. I made it out of durable yellow styrofoam, sprayed it with a coat of urathane, then painted it. The real thing looks like real metal. It has fooled many people. For those of you looking to do a similar project, I acquired the yellow styrofoam from a sculpting studio I used to work for: www.propartstudio.com/ They had their materials supplied from elsewhere in bulk and I don't have any info on that nor know where to acquire the foam I used for this.
The jaw pieces were cut out from a hard plastic sheet and embedded into the foam with glue before spraying the whole thing down with a heavy and durable coat of urathane, which made the outer surface incredibly tough. I used various tools to cut, scrape, etch, and pit the urathane surface to give it more of a weathered look then painted it accordingly.

Can you go into more detail on how you made it? Β Like where you got the foam?

Hi there, check out the updated description that at least gives a little bit more detail. Unfortunately I do not know where to acquire the foam and have been asked many times. The company I worked for before had it in stock and I used it.Β

I thought that the Witch King was a different character apart from the Nine Ring Wraiths.

Nope, he is one and even Gandalf clears it up in The Return of the King:
Gandalf (to Pippin): "Sauron has yet to reveal his deadliest servant, the one who will lead Mordor's armies in war. The one they say no living man can kill. The Witch-king of Angmar. You've met him before. He stabbed Frodo on Weathertop. He is the lord of the NazgΓ»l, the greatest of the Nine. Minas Morgul is his lair."

Isn't it the "Litch King"? Litch being a magical undead creature... Nice work though

I don't think he's technically dead, just his life stretched out so much that he's practically an animated corpse. But no... I assume then that you are pretty unfamiliar with J.R.R. Tolkien's works, as it is indeed "Witch-king":

Haha, I just realized somebody used my flail on the Witch-king's wikia page.

I don't mean to be annoying.
This looks like a thumbnail sketch or composition, not a sculpture.
And if it is a photo of a sculpture then I think the camera has very poor quality.

I'm not sure why you seem to think that this is not real (I have more photos of it if you wish to see) or why you seem to think my art is a bunch of untalented fake stuff, but this is indeed a real sculpture. And yes, it wasn't the best camera in the world as I was only 21 when I made the thing and didn't own a nice fancy camera, nor did I know a good photographer at the time. Just a humble art student taking a photo of his latest project.

Nah, no, no. I don't think nor did I mention this is not real nor your art untalented. Just only that this has an appearance of more like a sketchbook art look to it. Like the areas where it looks like pencil strokes and the bordering thicker edges as well. It just to me seems like something you'd find in a sketchbook.
I find your traditional art drawings good and better than your digital stuff because of what I wrote earlier on your third Link with Zelda vs Ganon pic done in digital mediums.
I have kind of a no holds barred thing towards digital art because of its crafty, cheating tricks to a certain extent.
That's me though.

What kind of Urathane did you use and what was the process? Looks fantastic.

Actually to give you a further idea, some of the surface texture was created simply from the spraying, others with cut into it after it had dried by myself. It's very tough to cut into but I was able to make some pore-like dents and scratches into the surface using a Dremel rotary tool.

I honestly am not sure what type of Urethane. I created this while working at a studio for a short time and it was done using their equipment. Basically though, the process for the Urethane was simply spraying the whole thing down in a few thin coats. The Urethane was kept in a large vat and kept at a high temperature I believe, and the machine pressurized it and allowed it to be sprayed in a mist. It was sort of dangerous though because if you breathed in any of the mist, your lungs would crystallize and you'd suffocate.
Other than that, the Urethane is very durable and strong. I mean, don't be throwing your coated pieces against a wall or anything, but it's not brittle. It's really a great thing for coating something as fragile as Styrofoam and giving it a nice rigid surface.
