Description
This piece is the epic battle between Fingolfin, High king of the Noldorin Elves, and the Great Enemy Morgoth, to whom even Sauron was but a lieutenant. Morgoth stole the precious Silmaril jewels from the house of Fëanor and set them in his iron crown. Many years later, Fingolfin set out to the gates of Utumno and challenged the dark lord to single combat. Morgoth attemped to crush his foe with Grond, hammer of the underworld, but ended up cracking holes in the earth, from which fire and lava erupted.Corel Painter X

Great action here.
Fingolfin:
"Missed again!"
One does wonder what Fingolfin could have done to Sauron...

he probably could've beaten Sauron. or at least done some damage worse then what he did to morgorth.

I stand alone
Noone's by my side
I'll dare you
Come out
You coward
Now it's me or you
He gleams like a star
And the sound of his horn's
Like a raging storm
Proudly the high lord
Challenges the doom
Lord of slaves he cries
Slowly in fear
The dark lord appears
Welcome to my lands
You shall be damned!
Lord of all Noldor
A star in the night
And a bearer of hope
He rides into his glorious battle alone
Farewell to the valiant warlord
--- I love this piece.

Out of all of the designs of Morgoth, this is the one I like the most. Is it the emotion of hate in his eyes? Is it the lava for skin? I don't know, but I love it.

There's only a few renditions that I feel do this duel justice. One of them is naturally the John Howe interpretation but yours is added into my list. I find there's a creepiness (in the most horrific of ways) about the way you captured Morgoth and yours is the only version I've seen that shows Grond spraying up lava.

This is amazing... Morgoth is like a dark monster, and Fingolfin is still fighting despite it all. Brilliant

This is a really great depiction of this scene. Most people (just my humble opinion) make Morgoth far too large. They're still good pics but how on earth would his foot fit on Fingolfin's throat if it was bigger than his whole body??? Oh well. I also like Fingolfin's armor.

Yeah sorry, I've had problems with people taking my art from DeviantArt and printing them on t-shirts and stuff then selling them for profit on ebay.

You've gotten a lot of compliments on this, and they are fully deserved. Both characters look true to Tolkien's conception of them, the details all fit, (particularly the Silmarils in Morgoth's crown) and the background looks appropriate. Fine job!

Thanks! I did use John Howe's piece and character design from the films for inspiration, but I wanted this one to look like an older, more primal version... like Morgoth's appearance was what Sauron chose to imitate, perhaps as to remind his foes of the dread of his master.

I like your armor design. It doesn't look so much like a John Howe or movie- Sauron knock off as many do.
Also Grond I>Grond II, no matter that Grond II was a battering ram in the shape of a wolf's head.

"behold! the shadow of my thought shall lie upon you wherever you go, and my hate shall pursue you to the ends of the world"
not the same scene, but morgoth wasn't exactly in a talkative mood during the battle of unnumbered tears.

In your description you failed to mention that Fingolfin was insane with grief at the death of so many elves in the Dagor Braggolach (probably spelled that wrong). You also missed that Morgoth crushed Fingolfin with Grond in the end. I'm sure you're aware of this but I felt it should be mentioned. Regardless of the backstory the picture is AWESOME!!!!!

Obviously you've never read the Silmarillion lol. Those would be the Silmaril jewels themselves, created by the talented Elf Fëanor and coveted and eventually stolen by Morgoth who set them in his crown.

Very excellent. At first though I thought that was Sauron since this looks similar to how he is portrayed in the trilogy. But I then noticed the three Silmarils. Again excellent job.

He had a lot of stuff , but his usuals were either a suped version fo the Doom Hammer . Or some Wolf Headed Battering Ram , wich takes around 6 or so Trolls just to lift

Actually the Grond battering ram was named after Morgoth's Hammer by Sauron during the Siege of Minas Tirith, but I do recall many times of people telling me that his weapon of choice was his dark hammer, the Grond.
