Description For more Lil Formers head to www.LilFormers.com

So I just got back from the E3 video game show (yeah I get to go to E3, so nyah!), and one of the big things there was the new Zelda title - The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Two things were pointed out by friends:
1. The motion control sword tends to looks a little wonky as it ends up in some funky positions following the users hand.
2. To line up with the wiimote controls, Link has been made right-handed (while he's always been left-handed in the past)

So figured I'd comment on that Otherwise, the game definitely feels not quite fully worked out, but I have faith in Nintendo to fix things before the game is done. they have like a 99% awesome track record on Zelda.

Other highlights of the show -

Sonic Colors - I thought this would be another dumb-ass Sonic game for kids, but so far it seems pretty great! Sonic just runs around! That's all people want, yay! Also Sonic 4, and the Dreamcast Sonic Adventure coming back as a download title(along with other Dreamcast titles) are also looking great!

Mario Sports and Wii Party - anyone else notice they just switched the titles of Wii Sports and Mario Party? meh.

Super Scribblenauts - more of the same... so great!

Epic Mickey - So does not live up to the initial artwork. It's just some Mickey game.

Kinect/Natal - It looks like it mostly works but, I don't understand why this would be that fun... and boo on you Microsoft for faking your tech demo. I expect it to flop.

Playstation Move - it's Wii on Playstation. I dont' really think there are enough casual gamers on PS3 to make this work...and those ones that do like this sort of thing, they probably already own a Wii

Nintendo 3Ds - Didn't try it myself, but everyone I know who did was blown away. The 3D without glasses works great(lenticular stuff), and the graphics power is top notch. Looks like PSP is about to die a quick death

Otherwise, the show was pretty disappointing. Pretty much just sequels and derivative games. A LOT of games with the #3 in the title for some reason... even several that aren't sequels. Odd. Also I noticed the number of gratuitous booth babes was much lower than last year (with the exception of Nintendo's army of 3DS chesty blondes)

Is Link really right handed in this game? (as in why?) Don't they have an option to play left handed? (I'm left handed)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

MattMoylan In reply to Gurt-B-Froe [2011-12-20 07:32:39 +0000 UTC]

there is no left handed option, though supposedly it is not much difference for lefties to play. It should function the same for you even though link will have the sword in his right.

I've only gotten to play a couple of hours of Skyward Sword (I own it, but I've been busy lately), and they have fix quite a lot. The control still take some getting used to, but once you do, you'll be chopping up like no ones business. The new Upgrade system is cool, although the new Shield Durability Gauge (were if your shield takes to much damage it breaks, and you have to get a new one, meaning all the upgrades you got on you shield are gone.) makes using your shield worrying, however, upgrading your shield also upgrades you durability... you can probably see were that's going. Plus, the Shield bash (which you don't have to learn like in TP, you start out with it.) doesn't take an durability when you use it, so if you master that, you'll be fine. In short, yes, total worth whatever price you have to pay for it.

Oh, and Link is still right handed... But according to what I've heard, he has pants now... which is weird, cause I thought he always had pants...

MattMoylan In reply to ImmersionMan [2011-12-09 06:47:52 +0000 UTC]

Yep I've played through the whole game now, much improved from the first E3 version. Though still wish he was left handed.

I feel the same way about most of that stuff. The shield gage kinda discourages using a shield, right? I was fighting a skulltula the first time, and I died three times in a row because it's difficult to stab with the controls, and even more difficult to do so with a shiled equipped because he instinctively lifts the shield instead of stabs. That's just me, but I feel like stabbing should be a little easier...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ImmersionMan In reply to Stormstar90 [2011-12-07 03:55:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes, but you have to understand, this is the first time one to one motion controls have been used (at least on a zelda game). there are bound to be a few hiccups here and there. Although, I don't seem to have that problem... although, i do have a problem where, when i'm slashing my wiimote to the right, I sometimes accidentally unleash a spin attack. But thats because I'm moving it a little to far to the right, and yanking my Nunchuck along for the ride. You might be having a similar problem, with the stabbing... But yes, there are bound to be problems. At least Nintendo tried to mix up the formula, and, honestly, when its all said and done, I think they did a pretty epic job.

Stormstar90 In reply to ImmersionMan [2011-12-10 23:15:17 +0000 UTC]

amen. I really don't think I could go back to playing traditional Zelda without motion control...or a stamina bar...or such a big overworld...I really hope they apply all the new stuff to the Wii U/3DS Zelda.

Y'know, they should just develop a function in the game that allows you to choose whether Link is left handed or right handed. That way, it'd also be comfortable to the user, depending on which hand THEY like to use.

They had that kind of function in WarioWare, didn't they? And Phantom Hourglass. (Although, Link didn't really switch his hands, did he? I'm right handed, so I wouldn't know.)

1; It was confirmed that that was because there was someone in there using wireless and it was screwing up the controller.
2. Who gives a frick weather he's right handed or left handed? It's fine either way by me. I don't see why it's such a big deal to people. It's their game. Let them do what they want.

Sorry also, on the motion control you don't really know what you're talking about. This comment has nothing to do with one demonstration where they claimed wifi interference. The sword arm follows you real hand position, so often it ends up in really goofy poses.

Seeing the game in person this is instantly noticeable.

MattMoylan In reply to jsdman1234 [2010-10-05 03:03:59 +0000 UTC]

er, because Link is left handed. It's the same as Harry Potter having a scar over his right eye, or FF7's Barrett's right arm being his gun arm. You can't just change these things.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

jsdman1234 In reply to MattMoylan [2010-10-05 04:53:20 +0000 UTC]

They're the creators. If they want him to be right-handed, then there's no real argument. That's like saying that Link's not a human, that he's "Hylian" which is just like the ethnicity, since in TP, when you're a wold it says, "Turn Into Human" or something like that when you talk to Midna.
Maybe I'm just weird. The little things like that don't bother me. If that's what they want, and it's not effecting the story or anything HUGE, then I'm fine. Now adding guns to Zelda would be ruining it by me. Lol

When I watched the Zelda trailer, I fell out of my seat in yipee mode. When I realized Link was right handed AGAIN, I fell out of my seat AGAIN, in wtf mode.

3DS was going to be a "Wait till it goes on sale" thing for me, but then they wiped Pit out on me! now I have to get it when it comes out!
DX

The playstation move is doomed to die a early death, either by Sue from Nintendo or the general lack of intrest. If people whant casual games they go play Wii. If people whant to make casual games they go make for the Wii. End of story.

And as for the common complaint of "Nintendo is only system without HD", heres something to chew on; The Nintendo Wii sales have gone down due to everybody haveing them. When the sales go down, the push for Nintendo to make a new system goes up. And by the looks of sales we may be hearing from Nintendo soon about a new system. Just give it a Year or two. Right now they have enough money to kick the liveing daylights out of Sony in the graphics department if they felt like makeing a new system.

Hey, now that I think of it... it's a different Link. I'll explain myself: Ok, the right handed/left handed issue is kind of heavier but... Wind Waker's Link has black eyes and eyebrows, NES Link has brown hair (SNES's has it PINK! XD well, in the game), the abortion cartoon link has black hair and wrinkled face... I mean, there isn't even a bloodline between them proably, they are spiritual family but i don't think there is a genetical boundary.

True about the sony move... although I think it's ment to force Nintendo into HD since it's the only next gen console without HD graphics. Depending on what Sony does release with their move I suspect that people with wii's will trade them in for HD... unless they are just that attached to their wii's... in that case the really should go out and get a life.

someotherguy2 In reply to tfsolardive [2010-06-30 06:39:34 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not like the wii will stop being fun because of move. Also I doubt that a used Wii is the same price as a PS3, so I can't see that many people just selling theirs for one.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

tfsolardive In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-07-08 06:55:54 +0000 UTC]

That would depend entirely on the used ps3 you are looking at. However the fact still remains that in a high def world, the wii is the only nex gen console with out HD graphics.
