Description For more Lil Formers head to www.LilFormers.com

So I just got back from the E3 video game show (yeah I get to go to E3, so nyah!), and one of the big things there was the new Zelda title - The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Two things were pointed out by friends:
1. The motion control sword tends to looks a little wonky as it ends up in some funky positions following the users hand.
2. To line up with the wiimote controls, Link has been made right-handed (while he's always been left-handed in the past)

So figured I'd comment on that Otherwise, the game definitely feels not quite fully worked out, but I have faith in Nintendo to fix things before the game is done. they have like a 99% awesome track record on Zelda.

Other highlights of the show -

Sonic Colors - I thought this would be another dumb-ass Sonic game for kids, but so far it seems pretty great! Sonic just runs around! That's all people want, yay! Also Sonic 4, and the Dreamcast Sonic Adventure coming back as a download title(along with other Dreamcast titles) are also looking great!

Mario Sports and Wii Party - anyone else notice they just switched the titles of Wii Sports and Mario Party? meh.

Super Scribblenauts - more of the same... so great!

Epic Mickey - So does not live up to the initial artwork. It's just some Mickey game.

Kinect/Natal - It looks like it mostly works but, I don't understand why this would be that fun... and boo on you Microsoft for faking your tech demo. I expect it to flop.

Playstation Move - it's Wii on Playstation. I dont' really think there are enough casual gamers on PS3 to make this work...and those ones that do like this sort of thing, they probably already own a Wii

Nintendo 3Ds - Didn't try it myself, but everyone I know who did was blown away. The 3D without glasses works great(lenticular stuff), and the graphics power is top notch. Looks like PSP is about to die a quick death

Otherwise, the show was pretty disappointing. Pretty much just sequels and derivative games. A LOT of games with the #3 in the title for some reason... even several that aren't sequels. Odd. Also I noticed the number of gratuitous booth babes was much lower than last year (with the exception of Nintendo's army of 3DS chesty blondes)

They really ought to make two options in the Wii Zelda games then...not EVERYONE in the world is right-handed either.

I really think they should have some option for right-handed or left-handed, and NOT flip the map according to what hand you're playing on. Seriously. The only reason they said it was too much trouble for Twilight Princess is because they feel they have to flip the map.

I'm also excited for Okamiden, but that's probably 'cause I love Okami, and I think the DS is perfect for it.

LokiBMohammad In reply to ??? [2010-06-21 14:13:38 +0000 UTC]

huh...you'd think they'd make the sword interchangeable for the right or left hand. My husband is left handed, and thus actually holds the wiimote in his left hand rather than his right...course, one would think they'd make everything interchangeable for the lefties on the Wii

Oh, wow. Didn't know they changed his sword hand there. Well, hopefully the motion kinks will be worked out before it's released.

also, I agree with Epic Mickey. I still want to play it, but it doesn't look as dark as the concept art was.

Haha! People nitpick at the most minor of things!

Though I'm excited to see more Donkey Kong, Kirby, Bionic Commando, Rayman, Sonic (for once) and Castlevania from the E3, I must say the game I'm most excited about is Marvel vs Capcom 3! LOVED all the previous games, and it's not an exaggeration to say that I waited for another game after 10 years!

The right-handed thing has ALWAYS bothered me about the Wii games. I wish they'd just make it an option. I'm not even left-handed, I just like Link as a left-handed swordsman. It's unique!
What's dumb about Twilight Princess is that Link is left-handed in the Gamecube version, but to make him right-handed in the Wii version they just flipped the entire game backwards.
At least with this one it's being made the right way and not being flipped.

Archaois In reply to ??? [2010-06-21 11:49:03 +0000 UTC]

Its true, Link usually has been left-handed in past game, the only exception before Skyward Sword was Zelda II: Link's Adventure where he was ambidextrous, and Twilight Princess, but people don't consider that one canon. Can't wait for Sonic Colors

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dionicio In reply to Archaois [2010-06-21 14:57:44 +0000 UTC]

Actually that's not correct In the original Zelda, as well as Link to the Past, Link was ambidextrous when facing left or right. Only to save sprite memory though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Archaois In reply to Dionicio [2010-06-21 16:49:24 +0000 UTC]

I know it was done with the first 3 to save Sprite memory, but Zelda II is the best example due to the side-view screen, and most people don't really consider Link ambidextrous in Zelda 1 and LTTP

Jedi-Knight-Dave202 [2010-06-21 11:23:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm not getting Zelda. I am a hard core Zelda fan but this looks like they Took Twilight Princess' Link (which was pretty badass) and stuck him in Wind Waker's environment (which wasn't)

The concept is neat and I hear the musical score is great but the whole cartoony environment around very realistic characters sort of shot the game in the foot for me.

MattMoylan In reply to Jedi-Knight-Dave202 [2010-06-21 14:46:54 +0000 UTC]

yeah they are kind of trying to have it both ways heh, i would rather they picked either twilight princess or wind waker style. Both played and looked great.

Vejit [2010-06-21 10:46:08 +0000 UTC]

Great !! But remember that Link isn't the one and the same person in every game so it's nothing wrong to make him right handed. There are a lot of Links from different times and places. So just chill and wait for the next great LoZ game. Also the Ocarina of Time remake is coming for the 3DS, can't wait to play it !!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

StryderK [2010-06-21 10:33:56 +0000 UTC]

One of the reason why the control for LoZ is probably because there are way too many people with IR pointers or IR devices in the conferance. It was the same problem that Steve Jobs of Apple encountered in a recent presentation of the new iPhone's Wi-Fi capability. For 20 minutes, he couldn't log on to the Wi-Fi because all the "spots" have been taken over by people with their wireless devices despite calls to turn them off (yeah right, like they will turn them off! HAHAHAHAHA!!!). Samething here, the IR devices threw the Wii-motes positioning device off, causing all sorts of problems. Heard from IGN and Gamespot that once they played the demo, the controls worked fine, you just have to be precise and controled about it. Swaying and swinging your arms like a maniac only serve to confuse things. Otherwise, the control was solid.

MattMoylan In reply to Mogura [2010-06-21 14:51:21 +0000 UTC]

yeah, though he was not really meant to be right handed in Twilight Princess (very last minute, they flipped the whole Wii version of the game levels and all)

Is the Legend of Zelda really all that awesome? I mean, shouldn't it be The Legend of Link by now, seeing as he's carried the franchise the entire time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shaydesmar In reply to rauj13 [2010-12-13 19:57:50 +0000 UTC]

it is really that awesome, but i don't know about the name. see, everyone knows it as the legend of zelda, so to change it now might be damaging. and i think in the storyline, it's zelda that's always remembered by name and link is just the 'hero of time' or courage's something or the boy in green.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rauj13 In reply to Shaydesmar [2010-12-13 20:44:51 +0000 UTC]

How would it be damaging to make a game called Link? It's not like Final Fantasy. It isn't a numbered series or even a chronological one.
