Don't ask me how the quad battlearmors are controlled, i grow less and less convinced in the possibility as i look at them. But i still love drawing them anyways, they almost always look awesome. This is a fast sneaky spotting type of unit. My personal favorite thing, aside from the paint job, is the periscope tail sensors.One i forgot to add at the end of last year when i finished it.

IIRC, they're supposed to either be lying down near completely prone/flat, like in the Sloth, or they're in what's known as the 'sports' riding position (leaning forward, in a partial fetal crouch) like on racing motorcycles.

there is a World War Two German Fighter that had the pilot laying on their stomach, with controls at their hands and at their feet they could use to control the aircraft and discovered it could make turns that a conventional fighter couldn't. I just can't remember the name of the plane, and my Jaynes' book on the experimental weapons of ww2 is somewhere around here. but at the moment i have no idea where. can considering that i just had tea with an elderly gentlemen wearing an old Imperial Japanese Imperial army uniform and had a wonderful talk on Japanese mythology and the role of Bushido... i'm not sure when i can find that book!

The quad battle-armours have bugged me from day 1, all I can come up with is that the pilots lay on their stomach with fighter like controls in front of them 1 either side, a control colum for right/left/up/down movement and a throttle control for forward/stop/backwards, with both having HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) controls for everything else, if the head movies independently a helmet tracking system would move the head as the helmet moves, thus displaying the images the cameras in the head see into the HUD of the helmet (F-35 style), the legs would have to be mecha/robot like fully mechanical systems, thats the only way I can see this kind of “armour” working, realistically it would be more of a Micro-Mecha than a Battle-Armour.
All that said, I love your design, as always, it looks fantastic!

Yep. I believe it's official consensus that quad and other heavier battle armors don't operate at all in a "pilot limbs control armor limbs directly" sense. They're simply miniature mechs that a pilot sits inside, though the cockpit would be very cramped or completely form fitting. Like you mention they'd likely be using body cues for some level of control, just not as much as light and medium BA.

One possible idea is a really reclined seats, so they are still basically sitting up but at a big enough angle to be close to laying on their backs, that way you could have the 'roof' with all your external sensors and all the controls on hands and feet. Going on your bellys good but it gets uncomfortable as you've got to crane your head back to look forwards, and being bounced around in a battle armour probably would give one hell of a neck ache.
