full view, pleaseToday is Commissioning Day (graduation day) at the United States Naval Academy here in Annapolis. The great thing about Commissioning Week is that the Navy's Blue Angels appear twice. They have their practice run on Tuesday, and their performance is on Wednesday. The practice run is more fun to watch, because it lasts longer. The one thing that I have learned since moving to Annapolis is that babies, dogs, cats and birds HATE the Blue Angels! The planes fly so low, and they are SO loud that it scares them to death!
President Obama was here in Annapolis this morning for the graduation, so there were helicopters everywhere! Navy graduation day is not a day to drive anywhere in Annapolis. Just leave your car where it is, and walk anywhere you have to go!
The building you see is the dome of the Naval Academy Chapel . . .

Yeah I was heading to the grocery store the other day and thought I was seeing things..... I saw one of these guys high up in the sky....
Turns out there is an air show this weekend at PAX!!! I didn't realize the angels were here. That makes me pretty happy, because they weren't at Andrews this year for the Joint Services Open House.

The joint services open house was this past weekend at Andrews AFB. (that's why i've been posting so many aviation shots) I was all bummed out because the Angels weren't performing here this year. But then I thought I saw one taking off the other day, and then high up in the sky......(I live on base)
and it turns out they will be performing this weekend at PAX! I looked up their schedule last night.
I LOVE the Blue Angels.
There will also be some f16s performing.

I love the Blues as well! My 2 favorite maneuvers are called Fleur de Lis and Section High Alpha. Of all the women on dA you might be the only one who might know stuff like this . . . Section High Alpha is this thing where 2 jets decelerate and go nose-up to an almost crawl. It looks kinda like 2 dogs walking on their hind legs. It's very cool! (See the Wikipedia entry for the Blue Angels - it lists all their maneuvers!) I have a picture of it here somewhere. If I find it, I'll post it!
Do you know what I love about their shows, other than the sights and sounds? It's the smell of the jet fuel exhaust! But hey, when I was a little boy, I loved the smell of gasoline! My parents thought I was insane! (maybe they were right!)
