Description
Keyholes deployed and ship rolled to present wedge to incoming fire. Distance of Keyholes not to scale - they would normally be about 150km away from the ship. In the image, they are about 200 meters away.Related content

Haven't had a chance to read the books yet, just ordered the first, but I like how this design has the prominent Radiators on the sides (at least I assume that's what the black panelling is)

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Been a bit busy with my day job...
Yeah, those are radiators, but the image is a bit misleading as what you are referring to as "the sides" are actually the dorsal and ventral surfaces. I rendered this particular ship rolled 90 degrees to help visualize how the Keyhole "pods" would be placed during battle - although admittedly they would be deployed much farther out, beyond the sidewalls, which are 10km away from the sides of the ship.
Since you haven't read the books yet, I have to mention that this ship - HMS Nike - doesn't show up until around halfway through the series, At least, not THIS particular Nike. Nike is on the List of Honor, where ships (and their crews) have distinguished themselves in battle, and whose names are reused when newer versions of the class are developed or produced. The Nike is even more distinguished than most, with the name having adorned many ships throughout the centuries of the existence of the Royal Manticoran Navy, all Battlecruisers, and usually the first of their class.
Technically, most of my images here are a bit spoilerish, in that about half the ships and missiles are new developments that start showing up several books down the line. For example, the Star Knight class Heavy Cruiser that I use in all the group images is Honor's SECOND HMS Fearless. The first will be in On Basilisk Station, and is a light cruiser.

That would make sense, didn't see the broadsides at first.

In the book 'Storm from the Shadows' it speaks of the Nike class carrying up to eighty pods limpeted to the hull. From all the images I have seen and especially your renderings of the Nike class the only place they would seem to be able to carry them would be on the tapered sections in front of and behind the impellers. Could you please confirm this and, if so, do you have any plans to create an image of a Nike carrying pods?
Thamk you.

TBH, it looks like one might be able to fit 20 pods per taper side, but unless I put them there, I can't say for sure. I have no real plans to ever put them there, but I suppose as an exercise, I *could*. It won't be anytime soon though, as we're currently working on updating the Star Knight. Adding more detail (most everything you see in my renders are placeholders), and fixing minor errors. The SK is our baseline ship, meaning that she's our testbed for design elements, which then get applied to the other ships eventually.
