Description When I initially posted the colour sheet and asked everyone to choose three colours (both here and the FB page), THREE PEOPLE selected almost the exact same scheme: Marine, Terracotta, and a shade of blue. I felt I wasn't allowed to skip that colour set for that reason. The universe (i.e. you guys) had spoken. This specific theme was selected by , the shade of blue being Light Cerulean Blue. Thanks for the colour selection! (The other two schemes were selected by people on the Facebook page.)
One of the things I'm really trying to work on for these 3 Marker Challenges is including a full background. In all the 3MCs I'd done before I had just the character in a white space, and while that definitely made things easier (and there's nothing wrong with doing it that way), I was getting too used to working with them and I wanted to up the challenge (because I hate myself, apparently). In the end I think the marine was a liiiiiiiittle too blue for the trees, but oh well.
I've been doing the new 3MC series on my Rendr paper (so I can get used to actually using it and stop 'saving it for when I'm better', where it would sit for seven years). While the blending capabilities and smooth tones are off the charts, I'm starting to realize how much I rely on the colourless blender in my normal work (which is what it's for, but doesn't work well on this paper). With other papers if you add a lighter ink on top of a darker ink it doesn't do a lot, but it does lighten it a little bit, and you can use the colourless blender to push errors through the back and back outside the lines. That doesn't work on this paper. You might get a LITTLE lightening, but for the most part everything just gets darker and darker (which will be fantastic for darker pieces) and the blender isn't as effective. It's a learning curve.
Last time I did a 3MC that included Terracotta I considered using it for the skin but ended up going with a Cloud Blue, as the Terracotta was just too saturated for my taste. I beat myself up a lot over it, thinking I was just shying away from darker skin tones (I have been trying to get better about that). So! When it came around again I was determined to actually use it as the skin tone! We would redeem ourselves!...I was right the first time. This was WAY too bright. She was a cute goat girl in the line art, but now she has red skin and looks like Satan. :I
"You know, that would have been a really good colour for a fox girl instead?"
*screaming*
Anyway, I'm apparently turning this 3MC set into a cryptid series, so look forward to that? (There will be periodic Unconventional Mermaids as well, I'm assuming.)
I added the tattoos to separate all the bare space on the legs and I definitely regret it.
Commissions are still open! We have three slots left available before Inktober. (This was done on days that I work my day job because I don't work on commissions on those days. We saw what happened with the velociraptor. So instead I work on personal projects that don't matter if the lines go horribly wrong. )
Done with Prismacolor Brush Markers in Marine, Terracotta, and Light Cerulean Blue on Rendr marker paper with multiliners and white Gelly Roll gel pen (I've learned the hard way that, while I prefer using my Uni Ball Signo for white gel, it rubs off onto the previous page even when dry so is great for loose projects but really not great for my Rendr book. Learn from my mistakes, folks.)
