It's not just mermaids that can have fun regional variants.

I had so much fun designing this! I was approached to do a tattoo design of an Oddish variant that would have evolved more like a thistle for defense. They wanted something that would work well for a larger colour print as well as linework-only for the tattoo.

Here we have both versions! I did the 2.5x2.5" line art with Copic Multiliners on a Bristol ACEO card, and the coloured version is 6x6" done with Copic markers (plus a while Polychromos) on Strathmore marker paper.

I honestly had a blast with this. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it recognizable as an Oddish if I was changing the leaves, but I'm thrilled with the end result. There were a few other designs that lead to this one and I might upload those another day because I'm pleased with them, too, and they're fun sketchbook pages on their own. (I might end up doing other Oddish or grass-type Pokemon variants based on other plants in the future, just for fun. We'll see.)

One commission down, four more to go! And then: MERMAY.
