Unconventional Harpies - Black Capped Chickadee

When I picture songbirds as harpies I always picture chibis. So round. So short. Such big heads.

While black capped chickadees are in my top three favourite birds, I'm admittedly disappointed with this picture. Part of it is I probably set my standards too high for my favourite birb. But honestly, I think the issue is that what I love about chickadees is you can't tell where their eyes are, and for chibis the eyes are the focal point, so they contradict each other. (On top of that I lose the white cheeks, which are another of the chickadees defining feature, because if I add the black mark right under the mouth then it looks like a beard, which I wasn't going for.) So long story short I love chickadees but I don't think they're chibi-able. I'll stick with drawing the actual birbs.

I didn't put as much effort into this one detail-wise as I probably could have (because it was making me grumpy). Might try doodling more chickadee harpies to see if I can come up with something I like more. But in the meantime, we have this one.
