Time to prepare for this tutorial: 1 year
Time to make the tutorial: 6 hours
Purpose of the tutorial: To help beginners who already studied basic perspective, yet struggle with drawing perspectives to get a start in apply it.
I feel quite accomplished being able to finish this tutorial now. I promised this since last year, it was a challenge to even start to make it.
Honestly, I don't feel I am good at perspective, but it seems like I am good enough to teach some basics.
There are plenty of tutorials on perspectives out there, but not everyone can apply the technquies after they learn them.
I hope this tutorial will help out the majority of the artists who started drawing with characters first like I am.
Other recommanded tutorials: From easy to hard
How to place an already drawn character in the field of perspective set up, using what you have drawn on the character to find the right place to set Horizon line for one point perspective.

I have a question. What if I say there are people who have inborn talents like they can draw something but doesn't use these techniques. They seem to have this 'eye' and make awesome drawings with perspectives. Err, not sure though but I know some who are qualified. Don't bother answering this question if you find it too dumb XD

there are, but they use the same rules nevertheless, practice enough and have it grinded into your system you can do it too.
or cheat with tools like this: [link]

Thank you so much for the time you invested in making this tutorial. It`s very helpful! Sometimes I really get confused in where the points should be and when to use a 1-point perspective or a 2 or 3-point. Lots of new things to practise here.

Thank you so much for your beautiful tutorials! They've really helped me and I'm sending them to one of my artist friends who can't access dA. I'm sure with artists studying the simple methods you've given us all to feed off of we'll have masterpieces like Princess Mononoke and the like springing up all over the world.

Now that's what I'd call a perspective tutorial.
I was an engineering drawing student myself but still I wasn't aware of the things explained here even though I've known most already. Come to think of it.. Now that's the problem everyone's having, they know, only that they don't realize...
Well, of all, thanks for all the hard work preparing all the tutorial.

Quite a flattering comment from an engineering drawing student. I never took an offical perspective drawing class thus far, (those briefly mentioned ones don't count) most are self study and learning how to apply accross the different thinking boundry. The tutorial is done for that purpose. So not as many people have to "figure" their way out and hit a wall as much.

Router-Jax In reply to mayshing [2007-01-15 02:22:49 +0000 UTC]
That's the deal in it. In classes, no matter what subject it is they will always teach the theories and things like that, but never for one they teach us how to applicate it in real situations. Heh, from the sound of all this tutorial, even if you don't take any official class it looks like you're already ahead of me.

Coming back to this topic, I just finished my perspective class with the most point on perfectionist professor ever, with an A.
We have a lot more practices, and finally I understand some of the things they have illustrated in the book that just skipped me before.
But unfortunately, we still did perspective for perspective sake, there's no merge at all for the organic drawings we are already doing. The students are on their own for that kind of merger to happen.

Oh, this tutorial was handy! I used it on my most recent piece, and it works like a charm! It's easy to understand, and the circle concept with the central/middle aspect of the focus is nice.

I am thinking to draw one that includes action, like a guy flipping into the air and how to do it... usually I just do it by what's comfortable, but I think I can develop a system for that.
I translated this to chinese, the people on Chinese board seemed to like it alot as well.

That sounds like another tutorial that will help many people. It'll be a hard one to make, won't it?
I'm not surprised your friends on the Chinese board like it as well. It's a very well-planned out perspective tutorial.

Oh, I really love the illustrations for this page of the tutorial, reminds me of the classical illustrations done during the Renaissance, where they gridded everything withing the picture.
I've read though all of you pages, and I've really enjoy them. I must add them all to my favs so that my watchers may see them as well. Thanks very much for taking the time to write them.
