The fog can be interesting! It can have a bit of a pea-souper effect, and can be improved by rendering in two layers, which is what I did with the 'Preaching to the Converted?' Image [link]
...also, in relation to your sun / lighting issue, have you tried using a Dformed plane converted to light? [link]
