I thought this was a photograph until I looked closer. This is absolutely beautiful! The birds (rosebreasted cockatoos?) look so real and soft. And those dandelion fluffs- wow! I can't begin to imagine how long those took. Amazing attention to detail!

I thought those were REAL BIRDS at first! Only after i studied the painting for a few, did i realize they weren't! What talent and skill you have in depicting them! Thank you for showing off your paintings, many of them are wonderful.
I have always wanted to draw for Children's Books. I haven't ever posted any of my many drawings and paintings that i made....Maybe it is something to think about!

Aw, thanks so much I should put up a print, the only thing that's stopped me is the odd size and ratio of this painting...I guess I could add a border to fix the ratio...but the finished file is really small compared to what I usually work with these days. I think it was like 2300x2700 or something equally odd. When I painted this I didn't have enough memory on my computer to make anything very big!

Just browsing through some of your older works and came upon this... it is absolutly incredible. Such gorgeous work. Looking at the small version of the image, the whole thing looked like it was a photograp. Wow this is gorgeous.

Thank you for taking the time to look through my old stuff I got a LOT of comments at the time that it looked photographic, but I think I've loosened up considerably since painting this. It was a good experience, though, as I'd only taken painting up again a few months before after many years of not really producing anything. It was like I was doing a crash course in 'seeing' like an artist again, I was painting everything at 200% size lol! It was over kill, but also perhaps a necessary experience.
It's a small size painting and an odd ratio size, but I'd like to clean it up and make it a print at some point

Yeah, it was one of the most labour intensive things I've painted, but mainly because I was still getting up to speed with digital painting at the time I'm finding it gets quicker with experience!

Very nice
At first sight, it looks like a photograph, but when you stare at it ab it you can see it's "just" a lovely detailed painting!

My God, the detail in this is outstanding!! Everything from the snail to the dandelion seeds to the blades of grass are obviously lovingly created. It blows my mind that people can do this sort of thing digitally! Simply phenomenal

wow a friend sent me a link to this cause he was so impressed with the detail. great work, I love the dandilion seds and fungi especially. those little things don't get as much respect as they deserve in real life, thanks for resprcting them in your wonderful artwork

Thank you for your comments. I love dandelions too...as I was painting this scene, I was contemplating 'pest' species. Most of the elements in this painting are considered 'pests' by some, even our lovely galahs--but there is so much beauty and life in them, they should be appreciated! I'm so glad you feel the same way--you're the only person who picked up on that aspect of this painting
Good on ya!

I absolutely agree they should be more appreciated
I saw dandilion flowers on the playground this week, and it's the middle of winter. anything that will bloom pretty yellow flowers when everything else is dormant is a great thing to me. thanks again, I think I shall watch you

I'm a little confuddled by your gallery. While you definitely have skills as a painter (your meerkats and holiday tree, for example!), some of your works, like this one or the baseball boy, seem very much to be digital tracings of photographs. Of course I want to believe the best but I won't be dishonest and say that I don't see some red flags popping up. I suppose I'll leave it at that.

Hmmm. After getting a lot of comments that this painting looks 'like a photo', I guess I shouldn't be surprised to hear this.
I DO NOT trace from photos. I DO use reference for SOME of my work, something I've been very upfront about...and I don't consider that anything to be ashamed of. If you'd like to compare my work against a reference photo, see the photo of the butterfly in scraps I used for the spring butterfly painting. Like all of my work, that was hand sketched and painted...not traced.
Well...I guess this is a compliment, in a round about way.
