Admiral Marcus had finally convinced Starfleet to form a battlefleet to protect Earth and the core worlds. His taskforce, as he said, was to combat increased aggression from the Romulans, Gorn, Tholians and Klingons that had occured throughout the mid 2260s. While Starfleet's frontline ships, like the Constitution class, were able to handle many threats the Federation faced the knowledge of the existance of Taskforce Alpha was meant to strike fear at the heart of anyone who dared enter Federation space uninvited!
