Description Since I've been into Undertale lately, when I heard the phrase "light it up blue", I pictured it literally...via Sans' blue magic.  XD

So, they're going blue for autism awareness month.

Kairy's loving it...Patch isn't too fond of floating off the ground.  XD

I suppose one can call this a crossover between Undertale and AuTalkz...it's weird to run a crossover of something super-popular with my own creation, but I suppose that's what it is.

I...actually like how Papyrus came out.  Gotta say, he's really difficult to draw (and, yea, I know I made his bones just one giant fusion in his arms...it's part of his battlebody; I've seen versions of his battlebody suit where his arms and legs are white, and versions where it's black.  Officially, I believe it's black, but I liked the white better for this drawing).
And, of course, Sans is always fun to draw.  ^^

Though, Patch looks a little bigger than Kairy when they're supposed to be about the same height (Patch is actually a little taller than Kairy, to be honest, but Kairy's hair often makes them look the same height).

I might do another autism awareness drawing (with emphasis on autism) including all original characters rather than a combination...but since I run AuTalkz, April is just a month of increased autism awareness.
Maybe I'll do a couple special issues of AuTalkz; I haven't decided just yet.

EDIT:  I altered the shirts Kairy and Patch are wearing; I don't think they look as good as the original, but it was a fast touch-up.
People were saying they liked the drawing, so I sort of groaned a bit.
On one hand, I don't want people to associate it with Autism Speaks or take away negative feelings from it.  On the other hand, people are telling me they like the drawing.  So...fine.  I edited the shirts, and putting it back up.

Disclaimer:  Sans and Papyrus belong to Toby Fox and Undertale.
Kairy and Patch, as well as AuTalkz, belong to ME.
I DO NOT SUPPORT AUTISM SPEAKS.

Oh that's cool! I have mild autism. I've been hearing lately autism speaks is actually a hate group now. Not supporting us. Finding a cute for autism. Everyone's wearing red in April now. And autism awareness month is now autism acceptance month.

Autism Speaks used to be really bad (I saw their controversial video where a mother talks about how the lack of support for autistic people makes her want to drive herself and her autistic daughter off a cliff...while the daughter was playing right behind her).

I had heard about a year or two ago that they were getting a little better, but as far as I know they still don't have anyone with ASD actually leading the group.

I always warn people against them because they still are viewed in a negative light by most people on the spectrum.  Even if they are trying to get their act together, they don't have it fully together yet and thus I do not consider them a legitimate source of information on autism.

Oh my bad. That was just a rumor I've been hearing. I'm not saying you are wrong or anything like that.

perhaps you could research why  light it up blue isn't a good thing for autistics? i like your art, don't get me wrong, but light it up blue and autism awareness isn't doing much good. try searching "autism acceptance" or "red instead" and you'll see why light it up blue isn't the best.

I don't need to research since I already did; I had plenty of people get angry with me when I first posted this...to the point that I changed the title because even when I disabled comments, I got notes about it.  Light blue is the color for autism awareness, and was actually developed by an institution in Canada not affiliated with Autism Speaks.
The first line in the description was just explaining where I got the inspiration from.

I'm sorry if this comment comes off as aggressive, but can you at least try to imagine how I feel in getting all those angry comments because I used a phrase and originally had light-bulbs on the characters' shirts...and then get another one because of a mere color which is known to represent autism awareness?
Seriously, the next step is removing this drawing if people can't even handle a COLOR.

Before I start, I want to say that this rant is not intentionally attacking anyone.

Don't light it up blue.  It is for autism speaks, (I know it was originally from an awareness group in Canada) who:
-Have no autistic members on their board
-Autism Speaks only spends 4% of their budget on “family services”.
-They are responsible for the atrocity that is "I am autism"
-Autism Speaks produces advertisements, small films, etc. about what a burden autistic people are to society.
-They have paid for research towards a "cure"

But after that rant, I just want to say that this artwork was great anyway.

actually they did finally get two Autistic members on their board, however, they are onlying hiring those that beleive anything they tell them, so still it does not change the fact of corruption

As for me, I prefer red. because the wrong kind of awareness is being promoted.
But that is a completely different subject all together.

Nice work on the drawing :3

I dislike the color red.

What wrong kind of awareness?
I'm asking out of curiosity, but whenever I see people "go blue", I just think "autism awareness".  Yea, I used to associate it with Autism Speaks (and thus avoided it) until I did some research and read that it wasn't actually them who came up with it.

landonbay In reply to mdchan [2016-04-06 23:38:24 +0000 UTC]

(Edited because of personal reasons)

It is because this awareness that is expressed is mostly the same as Autism Speaks Rhetoric, it does not change a thing. It diverts people to light it up blue for only one month, then what happens when the month ends? Nothing changes, the same discrimination happens and this 'awareness' that has been peddled by corrupt organizations, and they have caused more harm with this Autism Awareness month more than any other month. Because the 'Awareness' is not being expressed by the Autism Rights Movement. Rather, by the Pro-cure movement that justifies many acts of discrimination, such as ABA.

I cannot light it up blue because nothing actually changes. and the people only support us for one month, and that is it.

I do not even get involved in Autism Rights like I used to because many of today's Autism Rights groups have perverted what it means to be an Autism Rights activist (In my opinion.)

do you hate red because it symbolizes: blood, anger, rage, and domination?
or does the color red have something else that makes you dislike it?

as mentioned, I still love this art piece ^^

ButchxButtercup1996 [2016-04-06 00:50:59 +0000 UTC]

It's all good if you're a male on the spectrum, because that is what the blue actually represents, the fact that boys used to be the only gender tested because back in those days they thought females couldn't have autism. I'm going gender neutral this month with red instead.

mdchan In reply to ButchxButtercup1996 [2016-04-06 20:18:28 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know that.
Eh...I'm a girl, but I like the color blue (especially turquoise-blue or light blue), so I don't really mind.
Red is the color I like the least, actually.  XD
