Description
With our arms full of valuable magic items and crafting crystals, we ran out of the store, not having paid a single coin. It wasn't even that we didn't *want* to pay. We were perfectly willing to pay, none of us were greedy or stingy. It's just that we were broke and we needed these things. *Really* needed them. The store owner and his guards came running after us, and as we hurried through the cobblestone streets the crowd chasing us grew with city guards joining in. It didn't feel bad at all actually. We were doing everyone a favor, really; they needed the cardio. Were going to need it soon anyway. It was this point where I really wished Jonas had taken better care of his health; his smoking and eating had taken its toll on his stamina. He panted and wheezed, and barely managed to speak. "It... better... work... this... time..."
We turned a corner, we were getting closer to our way out. I responded between breaths. "It worked fine the first time, we simply made some bad decisions."
It was true, really. Our plan *had* worked. There had merely been... unforseen consequences. And now we had no choice but to try again. It was the only possible solution. Taking an incurable problem and making it someone else's incurable problem is functionally the same as finding a solution, right?
"How...long...do...we...have?" Jonas asked between wheezing, almost swallowing his cigar. The ground trembled, and a shadow crept across the street and buildings. The crowd chasing us stopped to look up. We didn't; we already knew what was in the sky. It bought us some time, and allowed us to reach our escape vehicle.
At the end of the street stood a goblin, manning a stall supposedly selling used shoes. It was a cover, of course, for our escape plan. The goblin had promised us he could get us a hundred miles from this city in five minutes. Why he used such a silly (and disgusting) cover I had no idea. Once we had reached him he led us into the abandoned warehouse behind the stall, where the vehicle was hidden. He had also noticed the thing in the distance; the ground shook again, and the shadow became more intense, as though the sun were being blotted out. Which it was, really. The goblin's panicked eyes went wide, and he asked with a trembling, high pitched voice: "What is going on? You guys never said it was that big. What happened?" I cast a quick glance outside at the enormous green shape approaching in the distance, and told him. "I'll explain it once we're underway."
Inside the dustry warehouse the goblin showed us a crude craft made of steel and wood. It had wings, propellors and rockets, all roughly nailed and bolted together; there was no reasonable way it could fly. A side view mirror randomly fell off with a clang. Izumi frowned and looked at the contraption. "How sure are you that this thing can fly and won't kill us?" The goblin's response was an ambivalent "eh" and a shrug...
