Description

Mushroom foraging is something of a national sport here in Czech republic. And right now is the most perfect time for it, it's been raining a lot and it's still rather warm, so mushrooms are literally everywhere right now. Amanita rubescens, or blusher is definitely one of the most beautiful and apparently delicious (I say apparently because I don't eat mushrooms) mushrooms you can come across. It can present a certain hazard if you don't know what you're doing, because unskilled mushroomist (is that even a word? I'm going with it for now) could mistake it for other, poisonous species. Personally I find them unmistakeable, but that's because I've seen hundreds and hundreds of them over the years.

I love photographing mushrooms and I'm always pleased when I find a magnificent specimen. I found these when I was as usual looking for insects near the local cemetery like the ghoul I am (the cemetery wall is incredible source of various insects and creates perfect backdrop) when I realized there were dozens, perhaps even hundreds of mushrooms all around me. Sure, most of them were in various stage of decay, but there were still healthy ones like these two.
