Description
I was trying to get pictures of this fungus eating rove beetle (Bolitochara pulchra) for a while. It kept eluding me, because it lives on mushrooms, that are growing on wood, so any logs or treestumps overgrown with fungus could host them. They tend to sit on the fruiting bodies, but since those are so close to each other, it's quite difficult to shoot them there. And if you disturb them, they just crawl into nearest crack in the wood and you won't see them again. Very rarely do they stop on the surface, so that's unreliable. So I had to find some sitting on fungus, that would be sort of isolated from others and be very gentle. And I finally did. Sadly there wasn't quite enough light, so it's not what I'd want.
It might be a bit hard to see, but it has really nice bright red stripes on elytra. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Aleocharinae family has some of the most handsome rove beetles out there.
