Description As promised, a multiview of the steam quad. You can see that the grappler arm is really not much bigger than the cannon when folded.

hey, with what program did you do this? that is quite important. ^^ Because if that program puts out the file in *.stl or *.ply or *.3ds, that would very much help. Then the miniatures can be PRINTED in 3D, I have found a company for that. ^^ That would be awesome.

interesting! but what file format doeas it provide?

MechaWolfie In reply to TheCoconutGuy [2008-04-03 05:28:03 +0000 UTC]

um, .x .dfx and .wrl... unfortunately that's all...

You should be able to use .x right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheCoconutGuy In reply to MechaWolfie [2008-04-03 10:50:46 +0000 UTC]

hmm. I have to ask them about that. I do know that they can rework the file to another file format, but that costs extra, of course. and I want to keep the price as low as possible (it is expensive already^^)

Well, another problem with DoGA is that the way it's geared it often inverts faces when exporting. It's quite the pain in the butt at times unfortunately. You have to take the model from doga, combine the parts into a single piece eliminating the dead space, and then manually flip the faces.

YEah, I'll say. It's not really meant to be used as a professional program. It's really just made for fun.

TheCoconutGuy In reply to MechaWolfie [2008-04-06 11:43:39 +0000 UTC]

too bad, really. any chance that you use other programs?? to let the company change the file format would cost around 100!!!! euro, that is waaay too much! ('specially since printing the figures is cheaper!)

MechaWolfie In reply to TheCoconutGuy [2008-04-08 01:51:11 +0000 UTC]

Nope, can't afford anything professional quality. I dabbled in wings a little bit in the past, but I don't currently have a copy. I haven't touched DoGA in months.

aww that really is too bad. may I have your allowance to give this design to another artist so that he/she would do me a 3Dmodel that I can use out of this? Would be pretty nice.

Me too ^_^ Even though in all reality it probably wouldn't work. It's fun to fantasize though.

UnholyLegion In reply to MechaWolfie [2008-04-02 21:54:21 +0000 UTC]

It might could work. Y'never know. It'd probably move really chopily though and be emensely hard to control.

I think this is one of your better ones . Really loving the design and I can feel almost uneased by it due to it's spidery appearance. Nicely done again !!

I am developing a non-commercial pen& paper roleplaying game, working title "the world of jules verne", in a world (some may call it "steampunk") full of technological wonders, somewhat like in the game arcanum (but without the magic). Right now, I am searching for artwork which I could use for the game, and this would be perfect. do you mind if I use it? Even if you do, please tell me!! Thanks a million, coco

Doesn't look like much of a steamwork to me, personally ... too glossy, bit too complex and not really grimy. Still, it's a fine model. Reminds me of the Guidebot from the latter Descent games given legs.

ahh... very nice are you going to rig and animate it? I can almost see the way it would move, steam pouring out the back and the valves opening and closing. very nice mech. how long did this take?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MechaWolfie In reply to morkeleb [2005-08-18 16:47:52 +0000 UTC]

Took me about two and a half hours to build initialy, and about 10 min to joint. I don't think I'll be animating it though, since DoGA doesn't have a joint option for pistons or sliding parts, which really bites.

Damn good doga, and a great idea too. We should RP an alternate history of the civil war using these things. Right I gotta build one.
