Description The Idea: My rendition of The CO's of Orange Star Army from the Game Boy Advance game Advance Wars. The original artwork, if you play it or search it from the net will look very cute and anime-like. Well I decided to give it my own perception and style while retaining the original distinguishing features of the characters. Let's go counter-clockwise from left:

Andy: The boy tech-wonder of the group. His specialty is at making repairs in any kind of machine even during combat. As such, I pressume him to be the commander of the technical staff corp with the rank of somewhere from Lieutenant to Captain or Major. Not sure. Just designate whichever you like

Nell: The Blond bombshell of the group. Essentially the brains of the Orange Star army. She is presumably the Chief of Staff or the S3 as she is the one who will give you the power to assume command and has power over the rest if the officers. Has the rank of a General or a Colonel.

Sami: The tomboyish tough babe of the group. Her specialty lies at mobilizing ground troops specifically the infantry to take hold of any territory hard and fast. Presumably with the rank of Major to Lt. Colonel and has the position of S1.

Max: The staff's muscle and the commander of the Heavy Armor Division. When he assumes command, the momentum of the Armored Division, particularly the heavy Medium Tanks increases tremendously; overpowering any ground fighting units head-on; blasting even an evenly numbered Medium Tank battalion of the enemy.

Whoa! Looking at this now after almost a year, I see it looks different. Did you touch it up? Or scanned it in with a different scanner?

I downloaded everything from my gallery since my back-up files were all deleted (It would've been a lot easier if they hadn't been), opened them one by one with Nero Photosnap Viewer, did Gaussian blurring to reduce the excessive grains, saturated the colors to an additional 50% and did some histogram corrections. In short, I retouched all of them up electronically.

Well, welcome to Deviantart, there.

Ahh, I love colouring using old fashioned crayons & markers. Nothing wrong with photoshop, but doing it all on paper gives it that certain classic charm I do enjoy! And you are quite talented with the drawing and shading! I'll have to keep my eye on your gallery.

As for the piece itself, I'd say you did fine in representing all the characters. Everyone is recognizeable, yet still different enough to warrant notice. And Sami with Camo pants kicks all kinds of posteriors.

Though maybe check your scanner... When I view the full-sized piece on download, I see that Sami's a little blurry.

Neat blurb on what you suspect their ranks are. Bit of a military buff, are we?

Either way, fine piece. Wonder what else we'll be seeing in the weeks to come?

Sorry, It's only now that I get to reply. I'm quite busy the past few weeks. Yeah, I'm the old fashioned type when it comes to arts. I prefer doing my works manually with inks, pencils and colors on paper than with Photoshop. And yes, I'm quite a military enthusiast too.

Regarding my succeeding works, I'll try to get sometime to draw again maybe this Christmas vacation or this summer. I'm in med school right now so I only get to draw images of tissues and anatomical structures for personal reviewers. How I miss drawing characters of interest again...

Oh, don't apologize for taking so long. Your schoolwork takes top priority over some random internet schmoe's random sucking-up. But thanks anyways.

While I would be interested in seeing your take on the other Advance Wars characters, (Especially Sturm and the rest of Black Hole) I say draw what you want whenever you can find a moment. Do what you want to, man. I'll just be here, lurking and enjoying the work.

And keep it up with old-school paper and pencil and whatever else. I find it much more interesting than the latest Computerized overshiny multilayered work. Not that I don't enjoy that, but the old-school basics like this seems more attainable, yet still says much about the artist's skill.
