This is a collage of all the cels of Shampoo from the introduction to my latest animation video you can watch here:

Some of the cels are reused throughout the animation but this just goes to show the amount of work that was done simply to make her seem alive while talking to the audience.
Also, this doesn't include all the cells for her eyes and mouth. There are actually cels for her blinking for every main pose you see here.
One of the challenge was coming up with different poses she would switch to while talking. You can't just have a standing pose throughout one entire minute of speech.
So the more poses, the more drawings are needed so make the transition between them smooth. Also, since Shampoo has long hair, more work is needed in order for her hair to flow naturally when she moves her head.
Initially I thought the introduction speech was going to last about 20 seconds. But I only provided very basic guidelines to Waka. In the end she recorded a lot more dialog than I hoped for. and it was just so sweet of her to do that so I didn't want to cut any it. Instead I came up with more poses and worked on this intro animation for about 3 weeks (Working almost every evening for 2-3 hours).
I even added more in-betweens to certain transitions so they are smoother.
I watched and listened to that intro countless times to make it and I'm still not tired of it. I hope you enjoy it.
