Description
“Our Song”

I heard it yesterday while driving home.
It filled me with so many emotions.
Visions of the two of us flooded my mind
as I sat waiting for the light to change.
There we were…by the lake….
watching the family of ducks swim
lazily in the warm afternoon sun.
the radio was playing softly in the background.
It was the first time we heard it together.
It was beautiful.
You turned to me and smiled.
From that day forward it would belong to us.
We would hear it all the time after that,
driving in the car it would come on
and we would reach for each other’s hand.
Then it became so we only heard it
every so often.
We should have taken that as an omen.
Now, after so long, I hear it again.
I smile though my vision blurs,
and my heart beats a little heavier.
Then the light changes
and the song ends.
And as a solitary tear falls
I turn the radio off.

Started going through my files again...another revamped poem originally written way back in 1993. I feel old...

I am sucking it up and being brave and allowing critiques. Instructions and insights are welcome, just don't be cruel.
