Description
I’ll be working on a villain wiki for King Sombra’s evil “mother” on VillainsFanonWiki.comRabia is the leader of the Umbrum, a race of shadow ponies that attacked the Crystal Empire before they were imprisoned by Princess Amore and were harmed by the Crystal Heart. Rabia and her children used what was left of their dark magic to give her youngest son, Sombra, a physical form before getting him out of the red crystal to be found by the Crystal guards and I’m pretty sure you all know the rest of King Sombra’s origin story. Anyway, Rabia and her people weren’t always demons made out of smoke and shadow, the Umbrum had their physical forms and they looked like fairies in the dark age of Equestria before Emperor Grogar cursed them by making them look grotesque, ugly, and ghostly.
When King Sombra betrayed his mother and the Umbrum, Rabia and her children were angry with Sombra and how he chose to change his destiny before Grogar uses the Alicorn Amulet to corrupt King Sombra so that he can use him to release the Umbrum, corrupt the Crystal Heart and aid him in destroying all of Equestria. Rabia wanted to get revenge on King Sombra for betraying her and her people, but when she sees that Sombra was under Grogar’s spell, she and the Umbrum decided to join the Dark Alliance despite the fact that Grogar was the one that made the Umbrum looked ugly. After successfully taking over the Crystal Empire and corrupting the Crystal Heart which turns the Crystal Ponies into mindless zombies, Grogar rewards Rabia and the Umbrum by lifting their curse and restoring them back to their physical forms. Then Rabia decides to call herself “Lady Rabia” rather than “Queen” or “Empress”.
When Twilight Sparkle and Courageous Heart free King Sombra from being under Grogar’s spell, they destroy the Alicorn Amulet before Lady Rabia attempts to destroy King Sombra, but Courageous Heart and Twilight Sparkle used their Alicorn magic to fend her off. When our heroes used the Elements of Harmony (along with four new Elements) to ring the Bell of Freedom, this caused Lady Rabia and the Umbrum to flee from the City of Tambelon while Grogar perished in his Titan form. A few years later, Lady Rabia and her people would eventually join forces with Lord Tirek and his Legion of Doom and when they learned that Queen Celestia married the other King Sombra from an alternate universe and had children with him, Rabia decided to convince her “grandson”, Prince Solaris, to join the dark side.

She is not Sombra's mother, she is merely the leader of the Umbrum resistance. His mother is some other Umbrum.

You seemed to know more about the Seige of the Crystal Empire comics better than I do. I was originally going to make it canon that Rabia is Sombra's biological mother, but then...I learned that in conclusion that when Rabia claimed to be Sombra's mother, she meant that she was actually the mother/leader of the Umbrum.

Yes, it could be misinterpreted that way. At least, as far as I see it, she simply devised the plan to send Sombra to the Crystal Empire and manipulate him and Hope to take it over. She shows no motherly connection.

No, he is the Emperor of the land possesed by the Umbrum. Rabia leads the resistance locked in the Umbrum prison.

What do you mean? Rabia speaks to both Hope and Sombra theough the red crystal. She is the first to indroduce herself to Hope in the prison. She is the one who instructed Hope on what to do to break them out. She immediately took charge as Sombra's second in command and displayed no motherly attitude or attachement to him.

I'm sorry that was rude.

(sigh) I did care about SOmbras backstory
Hell had you told me all this just one year ago i would have been thrilled.
But these days i'm like.... What's the point.
Sombras Dead
Grogars gone
And the other villains have all been turned to stone or reformed.
Equestria will be safe form threats.
So please don't take this the wrong way.... but I've just lost interest anymore.
But to show you how sorry i am i'll follow your page.

Yeees, that is the S9 universe or cannon to the show. Rabia is technically not present in the show.

Fun fact:
This version of Rabia from the MLP comics was inspired by Eris Goddess of Discord from Dreamworks’s Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

Oh my gosh....
that is perfect. I'd love to hear Michelle Pfeiffer voice this amazing design.
I find it quite a shame they never made another Sinbad film.

I always prefer Sombra in the comics as his development was much more interesting and he has an actual backstory. Rabia is considered the truth villain of the Siege of Crystal Empire arc in the comics and when she appears, she doesn't really display much of an personality or character as she is just seen as an truly evil entity who is very manipulative.

I like your origin story for the Umbrum. When Grogar first mentioned how he created them, I thought he made them from scratch. Your idea is cooler.👍

Not to mention that Grogar was cruel to the Umbrum after creating them by cursing them with a spell that disfigured them.
