A sort of double portrait... Queen Elizabeth the 1st and explorer (some would say, pirate) Sir Francis Drake (only he's in the boat, so bear with me here please
) In her reign, Elizabeth's fleet was formidable and Francis Drake brought many riches from his pillaging of spanish ships in the Americas. Drake was knighted for his circumnavigation of the earth... and doubtlessly it pleased the Queen too that he brought home to England oodles of gold and riches.--------------
Technique:

I first saw this one as one of the little cameo/ 'vanities,' and I really love the color and air of mystery, she looks like a fairy queen.
At first, I thought it was Queen Isabella and Christobal.
