Thanks, those are my own eyes
They are very heavy-lidded a la Anne Boleyn in fact.

So vastly interesting. My favorite is the shot of color from the rainbow over the somewhat turbulent seas. Great use of mixed media too.

what a wonderful piece! I really like the way you portrayed Elizabeth I as a pretty girl. Most portraits of her are not flattering. I prefer to think of her like this. (I wonder what she really did look like)

Well... Her mother was notoriously unbeautiful, and her father was king henry VIII whose tyranny may have somewhat coloured the idea we have these days of him as a 'golden beauty'... in fact his portraits rather indicate he may have not been so. THere's also another issue, that people did not consider, in medieval times, what we now consider is beautiful. A case in point is a written description of supposed stunning beauty 'elizabeth woodville'. The excerpt that was describing her beauty said she had 'stunning heavy lidded eyes drooping like a dragon's' (paraphrased) and one might think hmmm.. do we find heavy-lidded-eyes attractive? It's so hard to judge. This is why I personally find no problem with shows like 'The Tudors' choosing actors that appeal to a modern taste rather than those who resemble the portraits we have.

very true. i think cate whats-her-name did a good portrayal of elizabeth in the films. a great likeness, but kinda pretty. History fascinates me...anne boleyn, not enough info on her...i always wanted to know her back story.. as for the changing face of "beauty" or what was considered desirable i think had everything to do with the world view and knowledge of the times...like for instance, 'beautiful" women were painted with protruding soft round bellies and ample hips...a nightmare for todays bikini to be sure,,,but the reason was it showed her to be good child bearing stock which in a patriarchial society....breeding of heirs and continuation of the blood line meant everything. kinda sick attitude for a modern man (or woman) in todays times. and josephine and mona lisa...wonder why they had that little smile...never showed their teeth.....lol...probably didnt have many or they were decayed...but again,..no dental work was the norm,,hence bad teeth was common and not viewed as disgusting as it is today....gosh i could go on
and on!....thanks for the info on elizabeth...!

Yeah, so it goes. But sof bellies didn't have such a utalitarian view as 'more children' - it was natural to be attracted to a woman less likely to die at childbirth. Also, it was probably rarer to see plumper people in medieval times. Actually, strike the 'robably' out - its dead certain. Only rich people were fat, so it was obviously a luxury that appealed. Same way as these days it is rarer to be thin.
There's a lot of history books about Anne Boleyn 'The Rise and Fall of Anne Boleyn' is one, that draw an accurate and historially referenced biography of her. Look it up

I know.. I always think that... and by a man you'd loved, and had a baby with.. it's just too twisted to imagine.
