Description
Hehe, once again a speedpainting turned into something more.....but it took way too long, I didn't get to work on it lately, because school and other things were sort of eating up my time, but now I am finally done. and I think I am quite satisfied with it, got a decent amount of detail into this and quite enjoyed the painting process. except for the bridge. and the stairs. oh, the rocks were quite an effort, too. and the....Original 1 hour speedpainting: [link]
100% detail shots: [link]
original reference picture:

And here is the piece that Β’mynti has come up with, after spending some more time on her speedpainting, too: [link]
I hope you enjoy it, as usual, the print will be up soon!
Daniel

This look really gorgeous Dan, the little tiny bits of detail make me warm and fuzzy inside. I think they really make it all that more effective.
I like the original speedpaint too... though I (don't know why but) like this composition flipped better.
The textures are beautiful. Especially the water and the cracked texture in the wall.

Thanks, Az!
I think the composition just works better flipped, because it leads the eye better into the image, and the staircase on the right kind of catches the eyes before they go off-screen.

Sweet painting. I like how you started from reference and then developed it in your own way. For some reason I've never thought of doing that... Oh well. You've inspired me! I think if I had to give a critique I might say that the far hillside looks a little flat, but maybe not, I don't know. Anyway, nice work.

hey, thanks a bunch for those nice words
I think I see what you mean with the flat hill. This area just gave me quite some difficulties, it was hard to give it some depth, without making it appear too close.
Hehe, and as for developing it my way, it was kinda bound to happen. I was quite dissatisfied with the speedpainting, and kept finding mistakes all the time, and I still do, but meh, there's gotta be an end, no?
Thanks again!
Daniel

and thank you

it would only distract within the piece, and probably not really tie in well.

I've done that many times before, and I can imagine quite well how it'd look. I just like to keep the piece pure.

Superbly executed.
Feeling, scale and epic setting, all works perfectly. And the lone figure standing alone in the midst of mature meeting human progress is hauntingly beautiful.
Wonderful

My Pleasure
It's certainly epic in my eyes, Plenty of epic grandeur to instill a sense of smallness in the virewer and make them appriciate the vast and wonderful planet they live on.
...
But that's just one fellow's opinion
