Description
Voila, a new matte painting. I am really having a lot of fun with those, and since so many of you liked my Remnants of the past , I figured I'd make another one. Actually this started out as a practice, as so many of my pieces, but then I decided to take it further, and I quite like the result. However, please do yourself a favour, and, if you somehow can, watch this against a dark background, dim the lights or whatever. the bright background of dA just doesn't do it justice, it makes it look too dark and the details really suffer.
Unlike Remnants of the past this one is mostly painted, aside from one subtle texture, THIS is the only stock photo that I used in this piece, the rest is entirely painted.
Okay, enough talk, I hope you enjoy it, print will be up soon, as usual, and now tell me what you think!
Daniel
Since many people were asking me what a matte painting is, it's basically a mix of (digital) painting and photomanipulation, used to create a photorealistic environment in films or games, which is then often combined with some subtle animation and filmed material from the set.

Well that certainly was an inspiration back then

ooh, wow! Another really atmospheric one
and exciting! the different light sources and heat vs cold and moody fog, it's fantastic!
The ruins are great, i love the little speckles of illumination. The gradient of colour from the firey reds at the front and transition through greens and into the fog and darker, cold shades really draws the eye up well - i love this!

hehe, well, a volcano is planned already in fact I have been wanting to paint one for about year already. but I just haven't been able to come up with a concept which I like enough to paint it, yet. so far it is just sketches in my sketchbook

Ich liebe Bilder solcher Kirchenruinen. Musste dabei irgendwie an die Bilder von Caspar David Friedrich denken. Sieht klasse aus ->

sorry, i haven't got any advanced critique, not a good graphics-master.
but your title just tempts me to make new lyrics for rockabye baby. and it's gothic and disturbing. you want to see it?

oh, i don't have anything really formal or something. i didn't see the "open" at the end, so i was thinking "rockaby baby, on the treetop, when the gales blow, the cradle will rock, when the earth breaks, the cradle will fall, and down will come baby, cradle and all."
and the whole thing is imagined with your picture as the background. i think it's disturbing.

I love the detail on the fort and tree, and everything.
The only complaint is the hellish cracks in the earth dont seem to blend in well with the painting
Everything else is great, but those breaks in the earth, to me, take away from the painting.
I still like it though, lol

hm, I tried my best to paint them in a way so they blend with the rest. and well, they're kind of the whole idea behind the piece
thanks for your comment, nonetheless!

you're welcome
I think Im saying that because I feel like there should be more rubble around the break. Its like a clean cut, lol.
Anyways, I do look forward to more of your fantasy-like pieces

Stunning work. Love the composition and the colors. I really like the little tree on the left... I know it is such a small detail, but it adds so much to the piece for me.

You're welcome. After studying the piece a bit, I think it adds a sense of balance. Mostly likely what caught my attention.
