Somewhere, probably in year 2019, I decided to design my own Crest of Arms that would be a direct representation of my person.

I did consider researching if my family or ancestors had an official one. However, it would only show to what lineage I belong, it wouldn't be bad, but I wanted something more personal.

Surprisingly, the easiest part of the designing process was coming up with the concept idea. It took a little analysis of my personality, and researching the overall style of other official Crests.

The end result was:

Square Spanish shape shield with two hands that formed a heart, which sprinkled four side stars over a castle.

Above it, a flower from Polish folklore, modified Great Helm with a crown, and five fern leaves.

I felt it was a perfect representation of, what I believed, was the core of who I am.

From the beginning, this project was so personal and important to me, that even before I started to sketch it, I felt a strong connection to it.
I had plans for jewellery, printed shirts and even pin badges with this design, not to mention custom order wooden low relief. I felt like a powerful company, eager to advertise itself to the world.

Nearly every part of the Crest was a symbol, based on a fractions of my life.

The shape of the shield and it's colors, red, navy blue and yellow, along with the concept for the crown, came from the official Coat of Arms of Szczecin, my home city.

The flower was a Fern Flower, a plant from a Polish legend with the same name.

In my childhood, I read about it in a book and redrew it from the included image using Paint program.

According to my files it was in year 2003. It might not be an accurate data however. Yet, it still shows that me and this flower have a long history.

The fern leaves, though might have been seen as linked to the Fern Flower, were more a symbol of my childhood fascination with Dinosaurs.

I always imagined those creatures to live in a environment dominated with ferns and I started associating these plants with them.

The helmet was based on my favorite design for a protective head gear, the Great Helm from the XVth century.

I never understood why, but for me it always looked the coolest from them all.

The X on the face was a reference to my main Original Character, Chris the Prototype X, whose inspiration was the Marvel's Wolverine aka Weapon X.

The gem in the crown is an Ametrine, and it was based on an actual piece from my mineral collection.

In fact, I could say that the crest was an result of my history with this gem, which I decided to skip here.

The meaning of the hands, starts and the castle were linked to a poem, that would serve me as a "prayer before battle", so I left describing them for another submission.

Drawing the sketch took some work, but it was rather straight forward since I knew the general concept. It took me 3 days to draw all the essential parts. Retracing and polishing my lines was a bit more difficult, since I expected everything to be perfect.

The shield was easy.

The castle, also, but I did experiment with many variations of the bricks.

Hands, however, were a challenge. I wasn't good in drawing them and I did tried to put fingerprints in the palms, to fill the empty space. In the end I used he stars to do that. The end result was very pleasing.

I did fiddle with the stars for a while. Originally I wanted to the have smooth curves, but sharp angles worked better in the end.

I think the Helmet took as much time as the hands. Since I planned to use my design to order a real, made for battle, version, I was strict on doing the right proportions, and placing of the breathing holes, rivets, and holes for eyes properly.

However, the part of the design that was the hardest, most frustrating and drained my motivation to work, were the fern leaves.
I couldn't remember how many versions and configurations I tried until, by accident, I found the one I love.

A fern leaf was a complex design. A long stem with smaller leaves placed on both sides, that gradually became smaller and shorter the closer they were to the end of it. It was a nightmare to make mine look natural and not a "copy & paste" work done in 15 minutes. There were times I would give up for few days, before forcing myself to work on them again. Luckily, in the end, I found my combination and could call the project done.

On the day this piece was submitted on DeviatArt, I felt excitement to finally show it to the world.
