I-I share my dispenser with the team!
I always go on a good choke point usually close to where the robots come from, or at least in the center. Wherever the team usually gathers. Like on the top of the building in Coaltown! A teleporter can warp them, and me right there when they, or I, die!
The dispenser may be right behind me, but I'm usually right next to a heavy or a sniper who can use my dispenser!
See? I don't hog my dispenser! It's right there where everybody can reach it! And Barely any robots get by me!
I'm a good Engie!

Well as much as you DO appear to support your team with a dispenser, the team standing on the roof of Coaltown building is just a plain wrong place to be.
The dispenser along with Heavy + Medic should be placed on the ground, near left or right fence, depending from the direction the robots will run in. Heavy and Medic should stand just right next to the fence and bodyblock incoming robots, when dispenser should be hidden slightly behind the corner, but enough to let Heavy get ammo from it. That way Dispenser won't be damaged anyhow, unless robots will pass the first line of defense.

Ooooh. I think I know what you're talking about. I'll give that a try sometime!
In that case, should I try to put a little money into upgrading the distance me dispenser can reach players? That way the Heavy and the Medic won't have to stay so close to it?
And how about the building beside the robot spawn to the right that has that large gap? Sometimes I'll keep my dispenser and teleporter on top of the Coaltown building, and build a sentry next to the large ammo crate.
That way the sentry is doing damage to the robots as soon as they arrive, the team can finish them off with the ammo my dispenser provides, and in the case I do die, I can just teleport to the top of the Coaltown building and make a sentry there to head them off.

1. The Disp range upgrade is literally the first thing that you should spend your money on.
2. that's a bad thing. If you're dealing with uber medics, your sentry is doing nothing but just popping them. Just allow Demo/Spy/Sniper to deal wight them first.

Huh, and I always upgraded my wrench attack speed first so I could repair faster.
And I knew that was a bad thing! I actually got kicked from a game because I wouldn't put my sentry there once!

That's why Boot Camp is a after all a bad place to learn how to play MvM. Everybody's an idiot and they all think they're right.
I'll give you an advice:
Β Red marks priority, orange recommendation. The very first things you should have upgraded is 3x dispenser range and 1x metal cap.

It has infinite ammo and no reload time. And damn if someone punches it with demoknight it's going down fast. Specially in wave 666 you gotta jump on the tank and then damage it when it is spy- tank part of the wave

Menaria In reply to JohnJohnny16 [2015-01-12 08:52:28 +0000 UTC]
demoknight has no use on advanced missions and above.

Maybe or maybe is but the point I were talking about was meleein' the tank. In a map bigrock tank didn't get even out of the cafe, barely in that tunnel before twas destroyed. And I was demoknighting

What about movement speed? I find it useful when moving buildings around... Oh, and sentry busters.
I bought it because I never seem to keep up with the pace our heavies are moving, when you have a 12 kg dispenser in your hands.
Also, when is Mmmph mmmph or gentlemen guide coming?

Jake821 In reply to Menaria [2014-04-30 05:22:59 +0000 UTC]
Alright, so upgrade my dispenser range, then the metal cap.
After that I might go and try to upgrade my attack speed for my wrench so I can repair my buildings faster, Then my sentry upgrades.
Resistances should be last because I'm not meant to take damage to begin with. I'm suppose to be behind my sentry taking cover, so if I'm getting hurt, then I'm doing something wrong.

I smell a dead Engie in the near future... o_o
But I'm glad Strict recommends the Brass Beast. I ain't ever using any other gun for MvM, as proven by the 10,000+ robots I've killed with it (it's a Hale's Own rank that I have dubbed "The Leviathan," after an old mod for Brass Beast. Tracks all the robots, giants, and tanks it has destroyed, and the numbers show how much I use it.).

Oh dear... as a Engie main on MvM I am well aware of the slew of things the Engie could be doing wrong in the next guide.
...That Engie had better duck and cover fast before Strict gets there.

The engineer is the Most Important One to Defend with a Sentry that could kill a lot of kind of enemy by use 2 Miniguns and 4 rocketsΒ
But some of they may self-fish or camp the wrong place !Β
So it become a Big DisasterΒ

Oh the games ive lost because of idiot engies that camp with their turrets and dispensers. REAL engies stack up turret kills for the frontier justice, then decimate giant robots.
π: 0 β©: 1
Menaria In reply to Jaedave [2014-04-20 06:15:52 +0000 UTC]
REAL Engies don't fool around on the frontline hoping that they will kill at least one robot with the crits before they die themselves.
REAL Engies use Rescue Ranger to quickly move his buildings when the gate is lost and/or swich on Pomson on the waves with giant medics (that's in case if the team really requires that kind of help)

Menaria In reply to Joosh-Face [2014-04-19 12:42:10 +0000 UTC]
More like he builds the dispenser, but don't even carry it on the frontline. I saw a lot of those tragic cases when they sit away between a sentry and dispenser and let the rest of the team run outta ammo.

Eesh. I keep my sentry and dispenser on the front lines when I play engineer in MVM. And a wrangler for good measure. And of course, dispenser range upgrade. Ain't gonna win with no ammo.
