*salute* sir Strict. I was wondering what do you think about quickie bomb launcher and airstrike-b.a.s.e jumper as a weapons for mvm?

Still... When it comes to fight in wave 666 I'd rather pick up my good old Soul taker (eyelander) and mah bootlegger n' splendid screen

Good thing there's no wave 666 mann up, otherwise people would kick you in no time.

Oi! Whatch what ya sayin'! I almost got past the wave 666 with good old demoknight. Thing what stopped us was tons of über medic-heavy pairs! I kill tons of those bloody robots in just a seconds! And even after that slaughter I am still standing! And what comes to tanks I beat 'em up! So I 'aint bad demo, lad!

You see, Demoman's job is to kill medics. Since you decided to play with a shield and sword, your team simply couldn't handle ubers.

I once read a MVM guide where a decent demoknight can also be usefull by buying the crits on kill for the sword and then using those crits with the grenade launcher, it's situational, but if well done, it can come quite in hand.

If you are gonna go demoknight in MvM, i suggest using the Chargin' Targe, the Splendid Screens reduced resistances makes it less effective in this case.

I have question.  Is my Heavy loadout good ?

I use:

default minigun

sandvich

frying pan (for lolz)

Menaria In reply to kuba6160 [2014-01-24 21:25:25 +0000 UTC]

The default minigun or brass beast is the most important thing in Heavy's loadout, so yes, it is.
But I would recommend you to get Gloves of Running, since you won't really use your melee and this stuff speeds you up when necessary.

kuba6160 In reply to Menaria [2014-01-24 21:35:38 +0000 UTC]

I hate gloves of running. I use my melee weapon to finish off scout bots at the end of wave.

When you will make Heavy one ?

Blinder4562 [2013-11-21 21:26:55 +0000 UTC]

I'm gonna have to stop you right there.
While I wholeheartedly agree that the boots should not be used in MVM, the targe can actually be very useful.  The Eyelander's 10-second crits will let any GL user destroy any non-giant bots with no effort, ad the extra health, resistance, and speed are rather amazing to have.  I would swap the shield for the stickies at 4 heads though, since at that point the shield is a bit irrelevant since by the time one can easily get 4 heads, one can also afford the physical resistances MVM offers.

Schwanwald [2013-10-23 18:26:31 +0000 UTC]

I spotted one spelling mistake in this comic: It should be "Cyclops", not "Cyclop". The word Cyclop does not exist! A Cyclops is a member of a race of promordial giants in Greek mythology, and is a singular form, not a plural.

Sorry, I've seen this mistake (English speakers thinking just because a word ends on an -s it must be a plural, and then deleting the -s to form an incorrect singular) far too many times in fanfiction, comics, and even Hollywood movies (Hellboy, I'm looking at you). And it's usually the British or American native speakers who do it, not the people for whom English is a second language.

Time and again I see people incorrectly writing "Cyclop", "bicep", "Homo sapien". No. Plural of Cyclops is Cyclopes. Plural of biceps is bicepses. And taxonomic names are not put into the plural. It's one, two, three Homo sapiens.

With 40% damage reduction and 900 HP (which gives each one exactly 1260 HP, and remembering that over 15 of them appear on the map at the same time)? Dude, I saw what some guy posted on Reddit, you hid his comment and was an ass to him in general, please learn that your strategy isn't the only strategy. It may be good for a newbie, but for anyone who has at least two brain cells/400-500 hours, it's not the only one. Steel Gauntlets are the reason almost every team fails if you don't have a Spy, a GOOD axthinguisher pyro (their punches are perfectly accurate), or a Demoknight.

A Eyelander + Targe demo with a fully upgraded sword will deal 390 damage on a crit, and will get free crits for 10 seconds, which means he'll be able to chop all the medics on one hit. Stickies are a gamble, you'll only be able to kill the medics IF you have a trap set up. Crits? Crits are a fucking joke, crit resistance is cheap as hell and the Targe already gives you 40% explosive resistance.

You know what also can destroy medics? Snipers with explosive headshot fully upgraded. You can kill over 20 bots with a single shot (each one takes 150 damage). This guide seems to be a newbie's guide, but upon time they'll learn that there are specific classes to deal with the medics and can try out something else.

But who will take down Medics in that case?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Schwanwald In reply to Menaria [2013-10-23 17:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Here's a way to take down a Giant Robot with a bunch of robo-Medics in tow, or at least get rid of ALL the Medics with one hit before they can pop their Übercharges:
A Pyro with the Third Degree axe and his own Medic in tow (with either crit canteen + stock Medigun  for invulnerability to get close to the robots, or invuln canteen + Kritzkrieg übercharge).
Crit damage on a non-upgraded Third degree axe: 195 damage. Damage transfers to all robots connected by Medic beams. No matter if you hit one of the robo-Medics or the Giant Heavy, they all get the damage.

Menaria In reply to Schwanwald [2013-10-23 19:53:55 +0000 UTC]

It's still two people working on a job that could be done by one person (Demoman/Sniper/Spy). Pyro have more important job, like spychecking/ killing support robots or taking down tanks. About medic - his usage on mvm is very limited. See my newest comic for more information and join discussion in commnets ^^

RagingSalamence In reply to Menaria [2013-08-19 01:56:44 +0000 UTC]

A competent Sniper. Fully charge your shot, shoot the Giant's head, kill all the medics, take 20 scouts along and severely cripple any bot nearby.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beserkmaster In reply to RagingSalamence [2013-08-19 15:52:08 +0000 UTC]

You do realize that snipers have almost no other jobs, right?

Sure, you've got Jarate slowdown, Penetrating explosive headshots, but that's about it.

Besides, if you're on the front lines as a sniper, you're usually knocked out in seconds.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RagingSalamence In reply to Beserkmaster [2013-08-20 12:55:47 +0000 UTC]

As if a sniper should be on the frontlines... His job is to lessen the amount of bots so the other classes can clean the rest.

In real MVM you shouldn´t go to harsh over not "perfect" loadouts, sometimes you have to try something new, There are some Demoknight tactics which are just crazy effective, so dont just kick them if they´re not playing expert mode or something. A Demoknight can for example hold a whole wave of giant scouts by body blocking.

Menaria In reply to applejackforever [2013-08-16 17:32:17 +0000 UTC]

So do Heavy.
Let me just point out one thing: In my comic I show what is the most preferable by majority of players on MvM. I ensure you that most of them choses to have a Sticky Demo in the team over Demoknight.

applejackforever In reply to Menaria [2013-08-16 23:29:11 +0000 UTC]

Im not critizysing your comic, but you should never stop trying new stuff, there is actually a tactic for demoknight to take down giant deflector Heavies easily for instance

DearMrUnicorn In reply to applejackforever [2013-08-17 09:54:40 +0000 UTC]

I agree to disagree!
If you want to play around with a sword and shield you should go roleplaying in real life? Im sure you can find something like that in the area you live in? in most communities its called "LARP" aka Live Action Role Playing <-- But feel free to waste your time with a shield, but before you do it, could you then please change mod from mann up to bootcamp where you belong?
if you want to aruge about a good way to take down a giant deflector, be my guest, but the best thing to do would still be to just get some skilled players and nuke the bolts out of it's head!
So to sum up, Either go back to the dark ages where you belong or get with the times mate!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-08-17 10:49:46 +0000 UTC]

i agree to disagree with you.
First, even though im defending the Deomknight, im fully aware of the fact, that a stock Demoman is more effective, however, i think that, right played, a good Demoknight can fulfill important roles within his team. If a scout throws mad milk at those giant heavies, the demoknight can keep himself alive just by hitting them and so effectively kill them alone and the team can concentrate on other stuff, also a demoknight does surprisingly good damage to tanks, since he never needs to reload or get ammo. So the Demoknight is far from useless, and with team communication he can become a strong and helpful part of the group, so it is not a waste of time.
Also, i am playing bootcamp, because i don´t want to buy tickets. And i know, that with that statement, nobody will listen to me, cause im apparently a noob. The missions are not easier.

Im not just going and pretend something works when it obviously doesn´t, but i do believe that the Demoknight is a useful addiction to the team, and that he has his place in mvm.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

DearMrUnicorn In reply to applejackforever [2013-08-17 23:56:57 +0000 UTC]

you kidding me? Im just saying that those who only play on bootcamp arent skilled enough or intelligent enough to go Mann up. and sure F2p means noob... NO! games can be F2p, that dosent make you a noob, how the hell can you even compare those 2? - And the fact you even consider talking about combat medic is just horrifying! It was ment as a joke to insult your demoknight plan, but since you have tried it I fear for your feature. - sure... the heavy deflector knockback is nothing to fear... because you can walk forward! genious! thats the whole plan about it... the deflector is useing rage 24/7 so you're not even ment to be able to get close to it! - about having someone else to kill the medics is just a waste of team effort. the demo's job is to kill the medics, why get another wasted slot for it? - tanks, yea, but why waste yet another space on your team or another members focus? you might get overrun by robots if someone gets unlucky? - maybe its enough to keep you alive for first rocket, but 2x rockets = dead, and if you dont get the killing blow you wont get the HP... so thats another bad point on being a demoknight... prove himself useful? ive seen enough knights to know they are a waste of time. but im still offering you a chance to "redeem" the demoknights and play elite mann up with me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

applejackforever In reply to DearMrUnicorn [2013-08-18 20:46:31 +0000 UTC]

saying that all bootcamp players are noobs is supposed to be different than saying that all f2p players are noobs? Are YOU kidding me?

Like i said, a scout can mark giants without gettimg pushed back so you can come close as a Demoknight.
If you play Demoknight you are a completely other class than a Demoman and should be considered as such.
you have 40% blast resistance you will survive enough rockets to get kills. How i know that? because i did.

I´ve seen enough fails of every class to legitely believe they would be useless. But they´re obviously not.
The problem is that people expect the Demoknight to do the jobs a Demoman would do, and since the Demoknight can´t do THAT, nobody cares about the things the Demoknight is just amazing at.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Menaria In reply to applejackforever [2013-08-17 13:27:09 +0000 UTC]

I agree to disagree as well.
Demoknight might be good in general (that's why valve made him after all) but people on mvm require somebody who will take down robo-medics as fast as possible, not just another "damager". There's no place in the team for two classes that can be considered "anti-medics".
The other case is when you have an awesome Spy in your team that either kills robo-medics, collects money and damages Giants. Then rest of the team can go full derp and almost take whatever they want, since there's already somebody to do the "dirty job". But lemme tell you that I play on Mann Up for a quite long time and I can count on fingers of my one hand how many times i met such Spy.

The team can only contain 6 people in it and one person makes a huge difference. Either brings something good or something bad. Remember it.
