Nobody says that you have to make miracles like headshoting a Giant Scout to be a good Sniper.
The reason why he gained his bad reputation is because he’s one of the classes that can either do his job right or pretty much don’t do anything at all. The fact that he’s a primary pick of most of unskilled players don’t help to improve a stereotype about a Sniper on MvM.

If you can’t land many headshots but still want to play MvM,
Do NOT play on advanced maps or above. People will want you to change your class or start a votekick as soon as they will notice that you can’t do your job good enough for those missions.

Take a practice on easier maps.
On Advanced and Expert Mann Up maps there’s a big chance that you’ll get kicked if you have less than 5 tours finished and pick a Sniper. Thanks to that “every Sniper is bad” stereotype, there’s not a lot that can be done about it, even if you appear to have a right loadout and upgrades. I can only recommend to finish at least those 5 tours as a different class and then try your luck as a Sniper.

Speaking of loadout and upgrades:
Heatmaker, Machina and default Sniper Rifle are the best choices.
Do NOT use Sydney Sleeper. Its mini-crits can be easily replaced by a Jarate, Scout’s mark and Soldier’s Buff Banner. Sniper's full crit on headshot obviously deals more dmg.
Secondary weapon – Jarate. That’s always an extra mini-crit and slow on the enemies if necessary.
Mele – Doesn’t matter much, since there’s a rare opportunity to use it. I personally use Bushwacka, because it makes a great combo with a Buff Banner against tanks.
Upgrades: Sniper’s job is to take cover and kill enemies from a distance, so any resistances and any health-regens aren’t most important (the only real thing that might be a threat to him are robo-spies).
Sniper’s primary weapon is a priority and it’s the best to start a game from an explosive headshot upgrade.

Well let's see...
The picture as a whole looks pretty good! But if there's something to improve it, it would be:
1. When it comes to posing, there are only small details that could be fixed. sta.sh/01kogavaq40d The biggest mistakes here are right leg, left foot and left thumb, but again - those aren't really big things.
2. keep fat lines for big objects and thin lines for details. I think this could work as a nice example: fav.me/d6rxen8
3. You need to put more light at the object closer to the sun. I personally like to put a bright lines near the edges that are closer to the light source, like here: fav.me/d73b704
4. Don't use a transparent black color as shadow. It makes the whole thing look lifeless. Either use dark brown or a different shade of the color you're working on.

1. About the thumb, my intention was to make the hand look like he's aiming at the guy the Soldier's about to land on. But now that I see your correction, the thumb's position is unnatural and a bit forced (I hope you get what I mean).


2. About the lines, I started doing the Soldier in a smaller "digital sheet of paper" and it looks that, when I resized it to work on the detailes, the thinner lines ended up being bigger than what they used to be and it looks I didn't notice. I know that objects that are further from the "camera" must be thinner and thus, have less details, but I'll try to fix that next time.


3. About the lighting, I'll keep that in mind for the next drawing I do.


4. I don't understand what you mean with "transparent black color".

hehe you're most welcome! And by that #4 I meant that I think you colored that darker area in black and made the layer around 40% transparent to make the red color darker. That's what makes colors look flat. If you did this, use brown or or a darker shade of the color you're working on.

+1 to this. I enjoy playing the Sniper in MvM, and to date it has the highest damage count in my stats for MvM matches (explosive headshots are insane). But as you say, people see the 'ol snoipah and get pissy.

Because in the original MvM the team was supposed to be both colors while the robots are gray (IE: Gray Mann). Buuut something didn't work right and even in MvM you could PvP and people kept killing each other instead of the robots.

Actually, if I remember what the devs said, the testers were getting confused and TRYING to shoot people who had a different team color. They weren't able to kill them, but they kept mixing it all up.

I'm actually not surprised. Probably where Team Ylo (fem team) came from. Could've been any other color, but it was yellow. Then again, I might be looking too deep into things and it could be just because it was a primary color as well.

Sniper's are great on the battlefield!! Damnit, every class has it's purpose. I hate it when people get so picky, but we have STRICT SOLDIER!!


I quite honestly would be scared shitless if I was Sniper in the last panel. The sensation of falling scares me stiff...literally...its almost a phobia (or already is). Heights I'm ok with if I know I won't go over the edge.

Sniper in MvM is just about the most overpowered class there is... However, Sniper is also one of the most skill-based class. Therefore, groups quickly learn to kick sniper as good one are very rare.

I would use Heatmaker over any other rifle in MvM. You can stay in scope mode for minutes in row, dealing more damage than any other class.

In the next panel you should emphasize that player sniper is just different. Sniper can't shoot robots willy nilly and has to keep a safe distance. Most engie nests also make good perches for snipers too. Sniper's main job is to kill the hard to kills, like those damn uber medics, and can focus on giants while everyone else goes after the tank, so the others don't have to deal with the giants after the tank's destruction. Sniper should also go after giants because they got big heads, and he can kill the other bots surrounding them in one shot. He is much more fail safe than a demoman when it comes to killing medics, because if the demo misses his opportunity, the sniper can easily shoot from another spot. When executed properly, sniper can replace soldiers, demomen, and spies. One big thing to stress is that people who votekick snipers are suckers for metagame and lack innovation.
